Is hypnosis a trick or does it really work? Maybe you have been to the fair or a party and somebody was being hypnotized, they seemed to be controlled and doing something that you might think was embarrassing, but they just acted as if it was no big deal. Afterwards, they were told what they did or said and couldn't remember what happened. Hypnosis has been used as a party favor or gag for many years but there is an underlying allure to it because it taps into our subconscious mind and we all what to know how it works.

There is a bit of hypnosis going on in our daily lives. The next time you are coming home from work and you find yourself just sitting at a stoplight your mind will wander to things you need to do before the day is done. Before you know it, somebody is honking at you from behind because you've taken too long at the stoplight, that's hypnosis. Your mind has wandered from its usual patterns and drifted to a place where it was undisturbed, at least for a few seconds. Some might call that daydreaming but you are still awake and dreaming is associated with sleeping anyway.

There is a power in your mind to think of things and then visualize them; we all have the power to dream. When a person is hypnotized they do not lose their ability to think, they still have a thought process, now if it's guided to do something else it's because their subconscious has been triggered to listen and obey. Some people might be hypnotized to stop smoking; they are guided to visualize themselves not smoking. After they have been instructed to awaken their subconscious tells their conscious mind what they were told.

Focusing on matters that need to be done during a time when we are occupied with something else is hypnosis. There is a meditative state that we need to be in such as restful but not tired, hypnosis is not sleeping. You can visualize your dreams and goals and paint or print pictures in your mind. When you begin to see those pictures come alive, you can know that focusing and creating the actions in your mind works.

We all need relaxation; our days are filled with stress and confrontations. Meditating at the end of the day, or even before the day starts is a great way to clear your mind and to focus on the day. Self hypnosis gives you the power to play scenarios in your mind while being completely relaxed. If you have a situation that you know is going to be hostile you can picture the conversation in your head and practice what you will say. Being at peace with yourself during that time will help lead you. There is a control with hypnosis that doesn't take over but directs you in a way that's comfortable. Learning to relieve stress through hypnosis is becoming a preferred method for many people.
