As an excellent equipment for non-impact cardiovascular exercises, you should make sure that your elliptical trainer machines are well maintained. Keeping these functional will, of course, prevent your regular workouts from being disrupted. You can also save time, money, and effort for repairs. Below are some of the basic tips that you could follow to take care of your elliptical trainer machines.
Keep the machines clean
One of the best ways to make these equipment last for a long time is to keep them clean always. It is necessary that you wipe the sweat from the equipment right after you do your exercise. The sweat has a corrosive property that can damage some of the parts of your elliptical trainers over time. You also have to wipe the dust off your machines regularly. You can use a clean dry cloth to do it. In some cases, you may use a moist cloth. But you should not use a dripping wet fabric to wipe the surface of your exercise equipment.
Grease the machines
The joints of your machines should be greased once in a while. This would prevent the joints from squeaking. Some manufacturers provide a small tube of grease along with the machines you purchase. You can also buy one in specialty shops. You just have to make sure that you follow the instructions on how and where to apply the product. Follow the guidelines carefully if the label requires you to apply the grease liberally or minimally.
Use rubber mats and covers
Placing a mat under the equipment would not only prevent dust from clinging to it, but it would also protect your floor or carpet. The rubber mat would also level up the uneven surface of the floor. If not in use, it is also advisable to cover the workout machines to keep away dust.
Check for problems
It is also important that you pay attention to some signs of trouble with the equipment. If you think you have cleaned and applied grease on them but still they keep squeaking, you should then check for loose screws. But if you are not sure what the problem really is, just employ the services of a professional technician. You won't find any problem with the cost of repair if the products are still covered by the warranty.
If you know how to take care of your workout equipment properly, you can save a great deal of money for the repair or for the purchase of new ones.
