A modern woman is a balanced creature. She is beautiful in her own eyes and in the eyes of those around her. She has all aspects of herself in hand, mind, body, and spirit. She governs herself and her life, not allowing anyone to take that away.

You must achieve balance in yourself in order to become a modern woman. Your mind, body, and spirit must work in tandem. If one is not aligned with where you want it, then the other two cannot properly come together with it.

Keep in mind that there is no reason why you have to tackle the challenge of becoming a modern woman alone. Look to trusted friends and family to assist you. Tell them what you are trying to become, and tell them how you plan to get there. This way, not only do you have someone to be accountable to, you may even find a couple women who want to join you on the path to modern womanhood. Everything is easier when you have help, never forget that.

Sometimes the easiest way to get started on your path is to look at your body. Since the body is the most tangible part of yourself, it is a good place to get started on improving before moving to the mind and spirit.

If you are overweight, this is a good thing to address first. Consult a doctor or dietician and figure out what will be the best way for you to lose the weight. Do not just go on a crash or fad diet. These can do more harm than good. Figure out an exercise routine that is realistic, and start working on it each day.

Just don’t get stuck on the body. Figure out what you want to improve on your body, start working on that, and then begin working on one of the other parts as well.

One of the first things you can do for your mind is to stand up for yourself. Many women take on jobs and responsibilities that they do not want and really do not have time for. This is exhausting, and compromises your ability to take care of the things you need and want to do. Many women are never taught how to say ‘no’ and too many of them take on more and more responsibilities they should never have had. This can lead to both psychological and physical problems down the road.

Another thing is to beware of peer pressure. Something many people do not realize is that peer pressure is not something reserved for impressionable teenagers. Adults face it too. Peer pressure can cause us to do things we normally wouldn’t, such as gossiping, or eating cake when we’re on a diet. These things undermine our integrity and our self-image, which can become a vicious cycle.

A point for taking care of the spirit is to make time for yourself. Even if you can only set aside fifteen minutes a day, do so. Take this time to do something you enjoy. Read, knit, meditate, it doesn’t matter what you do, as long as you enjoy it. Doing this each day will refresh you and be a reminder that you are worth setting time aside for.

Little things like this will help you become a happier individual. Improving your life by small measures, then keeping the balance that you achieve will bring you closer to being a modern woman every day.
