There are plenty of big name treadmills to choose from at just under $2,000. Most of those machines offer great prices for what you get in terms of extras as well. All that makes for some pretty tough competition for the Smooth 6.45, but they certainly are doing everything they can to compete.

A lot of people are concerned that new treadmill models will have design flaws that spoil the experience of using the treadmill. The good news on this front is that the 6.45 is actually based on the 6.25, which is a very popular model. The 6.45 is essentially just an enhanced version, as it features a much more powerful motor, which still carries a lifetime warranty, and has some added extras that were not present on the 6.25. The shock absorption system on the swing arm is great for cushioning your strides, and unlike a lot of decks that can feel to be very springy, the deck on the 6.45 remains rigid enough to really give you the feeling of running on a solid surface.

The treadmill is decent-looking as well. The LED displays are set up to measure every aspect of your workout and that includes a wireless heart rate control monitor. However, the wireless belt is not included in that price, which it should be. The entire unit is pretty heavy at 240 pounds, but that usually means durability for a treadmill. Just make sure you put it someplace where you don't have to move it. You also have to remember that the free delivery is only to the curb, so unless you have some help you might want to consider the in-room placement option they offer. Of course, that will cost you a little more cash.

If your biggest complaint about the 6.25 was the short belt, only 54 inches long, you may be please with the upgraded 6.45. For taller people, a short belt can mean you aren't able to take your full stride. But the 6.45 comes with a huge 60 inch belt, plenty of room for almost anyone. There is also an M model available which offers a sound system, but you will have to pay a little extra for it. While the Smooth 6.25 was a good treadmill, the newer 6.45 model offers all the same basics, just bigger and better. It might not be enough for many enthusiast runners, but for walkers and joggers or casual runners, it may have plenty to offer. And at under $2,000 it is hard to find a treadmill that gives you so much for so little.
