Mother Nature has blessed us with many groups of foods that promote weight loss, and is it any wonder that fruits are one of them?

There is a huge variety of these fabulous juicy, tasty, healthy foods that our bodies benefit from so much, each one crammed full of vitamins, minerals and fiber - just what you need to stay healthy and lose fat. Many of us, especially kids, would turn away from the sight of vegetables prepared on the table; but if we see delectable fruits all laid out, then we just cannot resist them!

Every little bite of a tasty fruit can provide you with enough vitamins and minerals to give your body a healthy boost. These days fruits are widely available, in a wide range of shapes, sizes and colors that cause your mouth to water just as soon as you look at them.

However fruits are presented to us (and there are many ways to serve them), every one has its own repertoire of vitamins and minerals that will definitely benefit your body. Here are just six of my favourites:

  1. Peaches are rich in Vitamin A which is just what the doctor ordered for cell reproduction, growth and development of our bones and teeth, and bringing vitality to skin and hair.

  2. Avocados contain nutrients such as vitamin K, dietary fiber, potassium, folic acid, vitamin B6, vitamin C and copper.

  3. Apples. Each bite of this juicy fruit contains folic acid which is vital for proper cell growth and development of embryos.

  4. Oranges contain a healthy dose of the important anti-oxidant Vitamin C, vital for fighting against the development of destructive diseases, such as cancer.

  5. Banana. This tasty fruit is a significant provider of the potassium that our bodies need to balance water, cells and other body fluids.

  6. Grapes. Regarded as the fruit of the gods according to Greek mythology, grapes are highly nutritious. They contain compounds that fight diseases; chief amongst these are anthocyanins and proanthocyanidins. These are two substances which are known to show cancer preventive properties, and can detoxify particular cancer causing substances.

Healthy eating and weight loss:

There are many ways to have the benefit of the taste of fruits without destroying their precious nutrients. While some are required to be peeled, especially when their skin is tough and bitter, many can be eaten as they are, skin and all. A great way to get the very best benefit from them is as a fresh juice - a juice extractor is a recommended investment!

To get the maximum benefits from your fruits, whether you are eating whole fruits or juicing, make sure your fruit is ripe. It sounds obvious, but once fully ripe, fruit is in it's optimum state to be digested and absorbed speedily into your body. The more unripe it is, the more difficult it becomes to digest, and the less benefit you will gain.

Always try to eat fruit on an empty stomach, and if possible eat it 30 minutes before you eat anything else, then you will find you have properly digested the fruit before other foods have a chance to interfere with the process. If you are juicing, the fruit will be digested even more rapidly.

Why not do what I do and breakfast on fresh fruit or freshly juiced fruit? It is quick and effortless to digest and since it is so promptly absorbed you will quickly feel the energy-boosting benefits. It's healthy too - start your day with foods that promote weight loss.
