It seemed as if the common thought was if a person would just exercise, eat right, and take a vitamin they would live a long and healthy life; however, that might not prove to be true. There have been recent findings indicating that getting too many vitamins in your system can be very detrimental to one’s health, and in some cases can be fatal. This is different from what health care experts thought in the past about vitamin B.

Unlike fat-soluble vitamins A, D, E, K, and others, Vitamin B is water-soluble. It was thought that due to the water-soluble nature of Vitamin B that your body didn’t store any Vitamin B in your system and there wasn’t a chance of any harm coming from too much Vitamin B in your system. This is no longer thought to be true. Although researchers still believe that the body doesn’t store the excess Vitamin B in your system, you can take too much vitamin B complex in your daily dosage. People who are especially in danger are those who have been told to take extremely high dosages of Vitamin B because of high cholesterol. Some doctors have recommended people with high cholesterol to take upwards of 3000 mg of Vitamin B, at such a high dosage of vitamin B nausea, jaundice, and elevated liver enzymes can occur, symptoms can resemble hepatitis.

With all of the negative news about the Vitamin B, and with the FDA looking to regulate the amounts of Vitamin B that is considered a toxic dosage, many people are looking to just completely stay away from supplementing their Vitamin B intake. This idea of just removing Vitamin B from one’s diet is a very counterproductive idea for a person’s health. Vitamin B is an essential vitamin for the body to function correctly. The B vitamins help to increase the metabolism of the body, enhance the immune system, promote healthy cell growth and division, have been shown to reduce the risk of certain cancers, and help to maintain healthy muscles and skin. Simply cutting vitamin supplements out of your diet wouldn’t be productive to the health of your body.

What is the best way to get the proper amount of Vitamin B into your body? In a perfect world there would be no requirement for dietary supplements. If a person had time to prepare for, shop for, cook, and eat the proper foods each day then they would get all of the essential vitamins and minerals that their bodies require. Yet, in a normal person’s life there is less and less time to spend making certain that they get the proper vitamins and minerals. That is why the best solution to help manage a person’s health is to take a simple daily multivitamin. Daily multivitamins provide sufficient amounts of vitamins and minerals to help supplement any diet. It is important to take only recommended amounts of daily vitamins, and to find a daily vitamin that is produced by a reputable provider. Taking a good daily multivitamin will make sure you aren’t getting too much Vitamin B in your daily diet, without losing out on the benefits which come from Vitamin B.

Managing what goes into one’s body often seems more difficult than it sounds, but one should try to get all the benefits that vitamins and minerals can have in the daily diet.
