Does it feel as if you are not getting enough visitors to your website? Is there something you can do to improve this? Just having a website is not enough you need to take advantage of the SEO or search engine optimization techniques available to get your website noticed.
If you have a new website it is very likely that you do not have any search engines. If you have had your website for a while and still feel that you are lacking in traffic to your site then perhaps you have very little if any search engines either. So there are some things you can do and one of those is to make web directory submissions.
The aim is to have your website place on the first page of a search engine result page and to do that you need to get your website indexed. You can do this by making directory submissions, either manual directory submissions or semi-automated directory submissions. Web directories are updated continually and maintained by the service providers. Many of them are vast directories that cover a multitude of topics like the Google directory. Other directories are more specific or niche directories specific to certain areas. You should be listed with niche directories and with the general topic directories for optimum coverage and changes for SEO ranking improvement.
To do this you submit your website and its URL’s to various search engines and web directories. Doing this job yourself is possible and you do need basic information to get started such as the normal name, address, email, website URL and website description information, however there is a little more to it than that. There are SEO companies who can make manual or semi-automated directory submissions for you and they of course already know all the tricks and rules required for submissions. For the costs involved, which are minimal it may be worth checking this out as an option for your business.
There are also semi-automated directory submission options. That is software that will automatically fill up required fields however they are not always the most accurate or best way to proceed when you are not sure what you are doing. All forms of directory submissions take time but there is very little cost involved. If you complete submissions yourself there are only costs relating to those directories that require a fee, or the costs to hire a professional directory submission services firm to do the jobs for you.
After you have had your semi-automated or manual directory submission order completed, either personally or through a directory submission service, you will generally see your website starts to shift up higher in a search engine. The way this works is that each submission you make that is accepted will provide a back link to your website. These back links work on improving your ranking and are a big factor in your SEO.
Choosing your keywords for your directory submissions is also important as you need to choose words that your customers would normally submit to locate your products or services. However you also need to make sure that these words are not so general that they apply to every single website out there selling or offering the same service or product you do. This is the tricky part and requires a lot of thought and attention to detail. Getting this part of the process wrong can waste all of the time and effort you put in. Keywords are a major factor in search engines such as Google or Yahoo relating to your directory submissions, because these are the words that will be used to locate your website. It can not be emphasized enough that if you choose inappropriate keywords you will find that your overall ranking will not improve.
A very important factor in your quest when making directory submissions is that you submit your website to quality and relevant web directories. The higher the relevance of the directory you submit to the better the result you should achieve with traffic to your website. That means web directories directly related to your kind of business or service and relevant categories and sub-categories of those directories.
You want more people to visit your website and submitting to directories allows them to find you and therefore visit you. The end result being increased customers, increase sales of your service or product, increased income! What are you waiting for?
