Flowers are by far one of the most common items made using crepe paper, they last a long time and both girls and boys can create any type of flower they want or even invent new never before seen flowers! Flower crepe paper projects for kids are not only fun, but the look of pride on their faces is enough to bring a smile to any adults face!

You will need a section of colorful crepe paper, scissors, a ruler, pencil, clear drying glue, green piper cleaners, one piece of white plain paper (per child) to make this flower crepe paper project and adult supervision depending on the child’s age.

One of my favorite flowers to make with children are lilies, you can make a single one or a bouquet of them. Decorate them with a pretty ribbon or bow or make a centerpiece using more of them.

  1. Trace or help the child trace their hand on the white paper.

  2. Cut out the hand print and place it on top of the crepe paper (I usually cut the crepe paper down to a workable size square before letting the child cut out the hand print.) For one flower, cut out one hand print for multiple flowers cut out as many as you like.

  3. Once the crepe paper hand has been cut out, roll the bottom of the paper to make a funnel shape, be sure the little fingers are left unfolded and glue the bottom of the funnel shape together.

  4. You will have a little hole in the very bottom of the funnel, slip a green pipe cleaner inside the hole and you have your stem.

  5. Using the pencil very carefully roll each finger - place the paper finger on top of the side of the pencil and gently roll it in an upward direction. Do that for each finger, this will create a flower petal look.

To add a little dazzle to the crepe paper lilies you can use glitter, sequences or make a beaded stem!

To make a beaded stem use small 4mm beads (your choice of colors.) Just slide the beads up the stem from the bottom.

To use glitter, sprinkle a little on your flower or spray a very light coat of hair spray on the flower then sprinkle with a little glitter this will help the glitter stick to your flower better. Hold the can about 6 inches away from the flower. Adult supervision strongly recommended for this part.

Sequins come in all sizes, colors and shapes and all you will need to attach them is to dab a very tiny amount of glue on your flower then gently set the sequin on top of it. Let the sequin dry before adding the next one.

Making flower crepe paper projects is a great way to keep the kids entertained on rainy days and the clean up is so minimal even young children will be able to quickly clean up all by themselves.
