To build muscle and to keep that muscle, you need to think about your diet. Muscles need to be fed just like every other part of the body and starving them will not allow them to grow; they can even become weak and smaller when you don't watch your diet. There are many muscle building diets advertised today, and many of them are just sales tools to sell you a supplement to use with that diet.
There's nothing wrong with some supplements and in many cases they can make the difference between getting ripped and just having average muscle mass and tone. But since so many of these diets are typically just sales tools, how can you know which are the best for you and which are just hype? Of course it's impossible to point out every single diet and eating plan and note which is good and which isn't, and some will work for one person when perhaps they won't work for another.
You can sort through these muscle building diets yourself if you understand some simple truths about them and how they're supposed to work. If you understand the core principles of these diets, you can pick and choose through them on your own.
Truth #1: Feed muscles, and feed them often. If a diet is too restrictive, this means muscles can be starved. Obviously you're not going to get ripped if your muscles are starving! You need lots of lean protein and complex carbs to support your workout routine, and you need to feed your muscles on a regular basis throughout the day.
Truth #2: You should never work out on an empty stomach. You don't want to hop onto the treadmill or start lifting weights immediately after eating, but if your stomach is empty your muscles are not being fed. They will lack the nutrients needed to support your workout routine. So along with eating often, you need to time your meals and snacks so that your muscles are supported.
Truth #3: It's not just about supplements. The right supplement or supplement program can do a tremendous amount of good in helping you to get ripped and to build muscle, but no supplement can take the place of a good eating plan. Good muscle building diets will instruct you on the proteins, complex carbs, and other elements needed for an overall healthy diet, not just one that's supposed to bulk you up.
Remember these tips when sifting through the many muscle building diets out there today. If one seems unhealthy in any way, it probably is! Certainly no diet meant to build muscle should be followed if it sacrifices your health in any way. And if a diet seems like nothing more than a sales pitch, you might want to rethink that option as well. Some supplements are good but cannot take the place of a balanced eating plan and you really should educate yourself about supplements before considering them as part of your muscle building program. Always opt for a diet that not only builds muscle but that ensures good health overall.
