Why is organization so important and stressed on many occasions? How can it help you to improve yourself and your business? Let’s look at the Organization strategy which will help you to succeed in your home business while balancing your contribution towards your family.
Do you constantly look for files or find it difficult to locate emails or customer contact details? That means you lack organization in one way or the other. It is important to develop and follow an organizational method that suits you and works for your business. For example your filing system doesn't have to be the same as anyone else. Develop an organization system that is simple, easy for you to use and be diligent about using it.
You might decide to use a room in your home as your office or maybe you will work in separate office space. Whichever it is, keep your place clean, tidy and organized. It will make things easier for you and save a lot of your valuable time. Having a small room for your office is better than having work spread throughout your home. By having a workspace separate from the rest of the household, you will have more control over the state of your business. Your small office will be there, as you left it, when it is time to work and “off limits” when the door is closed. You will be able to discipline yourself to “go” to work on a regular schedule each day. Also remember to clean up, clear clutter and leave your office prepared for the next day’s work before you “log off” each evening.
When organizing your home office, first you need to decide where you are going to have your office. Once you have decided on the space, you need to decide what goes where. You should have furniture that is appropriate for the space and environment of your home office and that suits the type of work you carry out in the office.
For your convenience you can set up 3 kinds of STORAGE. Fingertip items should be within arms reach of your desk or in the desk drawers. Active items are used regularly but not daily. Active items can be stored a bit further away, maybe in a cupboard or cabinet. Archive items are rarely needed and should be stored away from your active work area. Make sure you have designated places for each item in your office and keep them in their proper place when not in use!
Although organization does not sound like something interesting or enjoyable, you can make it interesting once it becomes a practice and a part of your day to day life. Organization is important for many aspects of your business – especially if you meet customers. Your day to day work has to be properly planned and organized. If you go to meet customers outside your home or office be prepared. Take everything you need. If required, make copies of your documents. Be prepared with what you are going to say. Being prepared on every level insures that you do not waste your client’s time.
Setting realistic office hours is also a part of organizing yourself to be more productive in your home business. Make this a convenient time according to the other tasks you need to handle during the day. Prepare your schedule so that you can accommodate the other tasks you need to attend to such as dropping off and picking up your kids from school, shopping for groceries or scheduled doctor appointments.
With proper organization you will be able to earn more by saving time – time which would be wasted in an unorganized office. Organization of your home office reflects a professional image for your clients too. In today’s busy world, it is important to take measures to be more efficient when managing time. Organization will help you to meet the constant demand on your time. In your home business you will have to produce results within a certain time frame. To achieve what those goals, you will need to organize your thoughts and efforts.
Sometimes you might feel that you do everything possible, but still do not get the expected result. That’s OK! Make adjustments, set a new goal and try again! Once you set those goals, find a good source of motivation and get that ball rolling!
While you are organizing your office, all those pens, stamps, documents and phone numbers, don't forget to organize yourself. Plan a schedule for each day. Make a list of each activity and consider how much time you will need to accomplish each one. By organizing not only your workspace, but also your thoughts and time you will be far more successful in meeting your short-term goals.
Try the following tips to keep you organized!
· Prepare a “To-do” List
· Keep a positive attitude
· Have self confidence
· Review your day at the end of the day
· Look at problems as opportunities.
Remember that challenges result in growth, and growth is good. Nothing is impossible. Organize yourself and your work, then watch everything else fall into place.
