I became a believer of alternative methods of dealing with certain disorders and maladies in the late 1970's.
Shortly after my marriage in 1976, my wife developed a series of panic attacks. They were quite alarming and on numerous occasions I had to stop the car or pull off a highway so that she could get a drink of water or walk around until the sensation abated.
Her doctor prescribed some medication that gave her some relief; only problem was the inevitable side-effects. I say "side-effects", but really they were direct effects. Drugs are designed to have an effect on cells that are reacting to certain symptoms associated with the condition being treated, but they also have effects on perfectly healthy cells. That brings on additional issues - and then there is a drug to counteract that problem. Hormone replacement therapy is a good example of this! It affected so many other organs that has been all but abandoned.
Although we have lived in an era where great strides have been made in medicine, it seems to me that many of the conditions that drugs and medication are targeted to cure are merely treating symptoms of maladies brought upon by our lifestyles and habits.
These medications are aimed at the symptoms and not the cause. My readings and musings led me to believe that alternative methods of dealing with the root cause of many ailments would be preferable to developing medicines targeted toward the symptoms.
Although my wife's symptoms abated after a number of years, my research provided information that other techniques were worth exploring. These other methods brought about my present belief that we create many of our current life conditions by our thoughts, emotions and beliefs; and that if one could change any of those three attributes we could make positive change happen in our lives without the use of medication.
Recently I came across an approach to panic attacks that was in line with my thinking and caught my attention. As such I thought I would provide some information on the subject.

I have great respect for the medical profession as attested to by my successful heart bypass in 2004, but had I made lifestyle changes earlier in my life I probably would never had needed that operation.
