Most families consider swimming as a recreational activity which lets them relax and enjoy each other’s company.

A particularly gruesome swimming pool accident involved a 6-year-old girl who accidentally sat on an open drain which sucked out most of her small intestines and damaged her pancreas and liver. Her condition required multiple surgeries but she would have to be placed under constant care for the rest of her life.

However, the girl died nine months after the accident due to complications of her condition. Her death stirred controversy which pointed out the liability of the owner of the facility and the manufacturer of the drain as their product was again involved in a similar accident.

Though this accident happened years back, it never fails to show how kids can be in immediate danger each time they leave their parent’s sight.

• Drowning. It is probably one of the mishaps that parents ought to be worried about because children are unaware of the risks that they are likely to face each time they jump off to pools. There must always be a guardian who will keep an eye on these children and be able to rescue them if needed.

In most cases, the pool’s administrator will be held liable for their inaction to correcting the hazardous conditions existing in their property. It is their responsibility to their guests to provide a safe and clean condition wherein no one is in danger.

Also, they must make sure that all equipments are working appropriately and those which can cause accidents should be dealt with immediately.

Product manufacturers, on the other hand, must test their products and make sure that they are safe without requiring other accessories or separate equipments that will make them usable.
