Dry, cracked, peeling, bleeding skin can be extremely painful. Every time you put your dry skin into water it can be an excruciating experience. Clothing chafes, cold air stings, sweat burns; it is just a miserable experience to have raw and peeling skin. In addition to this, cracked and peeling skin is very difficult to cure.

Dry peeling skin has many other possible causes. The more common ones include dry skin, sunburn, Vitamin A overdose, and chemical irritation due to exposure to household cleaners and solvents. In the winter, falling temperatures and humidity dehydrates the skin and may cause some peeling. Excessive sun exposure causes the top layer of the skin, the epidermis, to peel naturally.

Epidermal cells are held together by both microscopic fibers and a substance like glue that surrounds each cell. Microdermabrasion physically breaks apart the filaments connecting the cells of the epidermis. A vacuum device and hand piece allow micro crystals of aluminum and magnesium to pass over the skin. The hand piece then vacuums off the dead skin and crystal particles. This procedure exfoliates the most superficial layer of the epidermis.

TCA peels successfully treat a variety of skin conditions, including acne, wrinkles, blotchy skin, blackheads, discoloration from sun exposure, age spots, acne scarring, excessive oil and dull complexion. The pores of your skin are unblocked, revealing clearer skin. Your complexion will be smoother with improved texture. Fine lines and wrinkles are softened after treatment. The skin is tightened for a younger appearance.

Obagi Blue Peels are used with trichloroacetic acid (TCA), the active ingredient, which must be obtained seperately (for more information on the leading manufacturer of TCA for skin peels please see the link below) and then added in various strengths to the Obagi cream. Many doctors have found that using the TCA by itself in strengths of 20-50% has had better and longer lasting results and quicker application times (this results in happier patients).

Glycolic peel is a natural treatment and does not normally produce any side effects as long as it has been applied by a qualified beauty therapist. It is not suitable for everyone, though, and you should not undergo glycolic acid treatment if you have been taking accutane medication in the last 12 months or if you have ever experienced kidney failure. Skin peels should also be avoided if you currently have any problems with your skin such as eczema, or any skin injuries.

The skin is thoroughly cleansed with an agent(chemical peel) that removes excess oils while the eyes and hair are protected. One or more chemical solutions, such as glycolic acid, trichloroacetic acid, salicylic acid, lactic acid or carbolic acid (phenol), are applied to small areas on the skin. These Chemical Peel applications produce a controlled wound, enabling new, regenerated skin to appear.
