Taking care of toddlers is an exciting but challenging task. In crèches, you will find all kinds of toddlers. Although they are quite different from each other, they have some common characteristics.

For carers and parents, understanding the toddler stage is vital. If you want to make the most out of toddler care, you need to understand the toddler and his characteristics. These pointers here will be useful when taking care of toddlers:

• During the toddler stage, children are starting to drink from sippy cups. This is bottle weaning stage. You should teach the toddlers how to use the sippy cups properly. As much as possible, let them drink from sippy cups more often than bottles so they will get used to it.

• Toddlers need to get nutrition from the food they eat. Expose them to healthy foods only. There should not be unhealthy foods inside the crèche. Toddlers should learn to eat healthfully.

• Toddlers need as much sleep as possible. They need rest and sleep to grow faster. You should allot a particular time during the day to let the toddlers sleep.

• Toddler stage is when children start to learn how to put words together and make up sentences to converse. Don’t expect them to talk sensibly all the time. Most of the time, they will just put together words that don’t even work together. Encourage the toddler to continue expressing his thoughts through words. This helps a lot in developing his communication skills.

• Always make it a point to talk to toddlers. It helps build their confidence knowing that someone is interested with that they have to say.

• Toddlers are very active. They want to explore and experiment on a lot of things. You need to be always attentive. You should not let your eyes off them. They are prone to accidents and injuries because they don’t know how to avoid dangers yet. You should promote safety at all times inside the crèche so the toddlers will be safe.

• Disciplining toddlers is very important. This stage serves as the foundation for the children. If they are not disciplined during this stage, they will grow up not disciplined. When you set rules, be consistent with it. Make sure that all rules are understood and followed by the toddlers.

Crèches help a lot in developing emotion, language, confidence and skills of toddlers. These pointers here will help the carers and the parents understand the toddlers better.
