Prince Of Persia, The Sands of Time is Disney's newest film release in the tradition of their hit trilogy Pirates Of the Caribbean. As part of their new licensing with Disney, Lego is releasing a wave of sets around this action adventure movie based on a 1980's video game. Set number 7573, the Battle of Alamut is based around one of the major action scenes in the movie and features most of the main characters, a large fortress and for the first time, a camel.
Priced at $80 the set contains 821 pieces, including 7 minifigures. The minifigures include Dastan (the hero of the film) and the characters Hassansin, Nizam (the main villain), Seso, Claw Hassansin, and 2 Guards. The figures all have a high level of detail to their torsos (double sided) and highly expressive faces. They come with swords, scimitars and lances (Dastan comes with a very cool backpack that holds two long swords) and some also feature double sided heads.
The set comes with two thick instruction books and most of the build is understandably the palace fortress. As the film is set in 6th century Persia (now known as Iran) the set has a distinctive look about it and there are numerous areas of playability. Catapults, pots of boiling oil, movable stairs, false walls and booby traps abound.
In addition Dastan is apparently a master of parkour, the wall climbing acrobatic art and there are numerous pegs on the outside of the walls so the minifigure can scale the walls with vigour.
The fortress comes in two separate sections: the main building and the wall. They can be put together to form a high walled castle or the walls can be separated out to make a long front wall with the castle sitting behind. It's an ingenious design that adds playability and room for original creations or other Prince Of Persia sets.
The palace is an open design which allows for playability and comes with balconies, plants and gold accents. Along with Nizam's throne and a weapon's cache the palace also comes with the fabled Dagger of Time, the main story vehicle of the movie.
Its a great set with heaps of playability, great for fans of the computer game and the movie. Even if you are not a fan of the Price Of Persia it would complement castle/medieval sets well.
