How to Play War

War is played by two players. The original War game played by children is played by dividing a card deck evenly between the two players in a face-down stack. Each player then reveals the top card on their stacks to BATTLE against each other. The player with the higher face value of the card wins the battle and will take the other card and then put them both on the bottom of his stack.

If the two cards are equal in value, then each player should lay down another three face-down cards, and a fourth card in face-up position. A WAR between these faced-up cards will take place, and the higher-valued card will win. Upon winning the war, the winning player will take all the cards and add them to his stack. In case a war has tied, this war process will be repeated until there is no tie.

The player who collects all the cards will win. In case that a player runs out of cards in the war process, the last available card will then be played as his face-up card and will be sent to war. Thus, he will still have a chance to stay in the game and reverse the situation.

War Card Values

Each face card (regardless of which suite it is) in a standard card deck receives a specific value. Ace holds the highest value (14), followed by King (13), Queen (12), Jack (11) and the other cards numbered cards (in which the value is equal to the numbers) from 10 to 2.

War in casinos apply the same rules as the traditional War games in determining the winner. A player plays the casino version of War against the dealer one on one. • If your face up card’s value is lower than the dealer’s, then you will lose your bets.

• If you tie with the dealer, you still win and your original bet will be paid in a 3 to 1 ratio but your war wager will be returned as a push.
