Acne is a skin condition resulting from blocked hair follicles. Acne pimples affect many people and they can cause low self esteem and inhibition. There are some very powerful medications available that will clear up acne in most people, but they are expensive, produce harsh side effects and have unknown long-term consequences. Therefore, home remedies using herbs and natural products are ideal for acne treatment.

The following are some of the acne home remedy tried, and, at times, found useful.

  1. Eat plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables. At least 5 servings of fruits and vegetables should be included in your diet. A healthy, balanced diet is essential in keeping your acne under control.

  2. Baking soda can be found in most any household pantry or bathroom. It can also be used to shrivel acne pimple away to nothing within a day or two. This is very potent and may cause dryness so be sure to dilute it with water before applying to the skin.

  3. Nettle tea is another acne solution, this tea is a herb that is claimed to have beneficial effects on skin inflammations. Drink 3-4 cups a day.

  4. Aloe vera gel is good for acne for two main reasons. First, it immediately soothes the skin and is a mild anti-inflammatory. Secondly, aloe vera is a natural antibiotic - it cleans the skin and kills bacteria.

  5. Grind cucumber and lemon juice and make a paste. Use this as a face mask for half an hour regularly.

  6. Use lemon juice to acne treatment. The citric acid in lemon juice helps slough away dead skin, increase elasticity and flushes debris out of pores. For the fastest results, take a cotton ball, soak it with lemon juice and dab it over the affected areas of skin. Apply this as if it were astringent two to three times a day.

  7. Apply a paste of fresh methi (fenugreek) leaves over the face daily for 10-15 minutes and wash off with luke warm water. This is helpful in preventing acne.

  8. Apply toothpaste (not gel) on your pimple before you go to bed. The drying effect reduces the swelling of inflamed acne.

  9. When a pimple becomes noticeable, apply ice immediately. You may use crushed ice, ice cubes, ice packs or a bag of frozen vegetables. This will dramatically reduce the redness and swelling making the acne less visible. Try to hold the ice on the blemish for at least five to 10 minutes.
