If you’ve been around online or internet marketing for any length of time, you realize things can get complicated fast. It seems online gurus have new and better ways to do video marketing, social media marketing, content marketing, SEO, pay per click, and ezine advertising each and every day. You click on one expert's site, sign up for a free ebook, click on another link, grab another leader’s video course, and soon you’re drowning in 10,000 emails a day about the "latest and greatest" online marketing strategies.

A lot of us, myself included, can get stuck in information overload from time to time. You feel like you need to keep looking and discovering and as a result, never take action or implement anything you’ve learned!

Feeling immobilized by the number and variety of online marketing strategies is common. There are so many ways to build your business online and if you’re like me, you want to implement them in your business all at the same time!

Ready to achieve success online and break free of information overload? Here are three strategies profitable internet marketers follow to build their business online:

  1. Simplify.

The majority of people overcomplicate things unnecessarily.If it seems too easy, we feel like there’s got to be a catch! But if you want to win online, you have to discover how to do the basics better than your competition. There are only three "basics" in internet marketing:

  • Generate leads and build your list.+ Build a relationship with the people on your list.+ Market to your list and close a sale.

Focus on those three things. Those are the basics of successful internet marketing. Don't overcomplicate things. If you feel overwhelmed or things aren’t moving forward in your business, come back to this list and figure out where you need to focus—which is the second tactic for internet marketing success.

  1. Stay Focused.

There is an overwhelming amount of information online; it's no wonder we get distracted! I really notice this phenomenon when I’m updating my status on Twitter, and before I am even finished typing there are 87 new tweets! The sheer volume of new information that comes at us at an increasingly faster rate is truly amazing. If you are able to ignore distractions and focus, you will be victorious online.

Take a look again at the basics from the strategy above. Where are you stuck or struggling? If you don’t have anyone to talk to, if you haven’t built your list, focus there. If you don't have the first basic tactic completed, don't spend time on or worry about the other two tactics. If you have a list, an autoresponder series going, and are connecting with people on Facebook and Twitter, but aren’t making any sales, focus there. What's holding you back? Is the offer being extended at the right time in the right way? Is your product or service something that your list wants and needs?

  1. Report Results.

Successful business owners and internet marketers track results and are accountable to someone else for their numbers. Which marketing tactics are working for you? How many people did you add to your list today? This week? From what source? How many new people are you talking to on a daily and weekly basis? How many sales are you making? For which products?

Knowing your numbers is essential! Everyone will track different numbers because different things matter depending on what business you're in. But, you need to spend some time figuring out the 5-10 numbers to track on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis that will move your business forward.

And make sure you find an accountability partner—someone on your team, a business partner, a friend, even your spouse—and make an agreement to turn in your numbers at a regularly scheduled time each week. This makes it much easier to evaluate your business, so you can determine when to simplify and refocus.

Don’t let information overload stand in the way of your online marketing success. Follow these three simple success strategies—Simplify, Focus, and Track Results—and your business will be growing online in no time!
