Teeth Whitening At-Home Products

You may have the perfect set of teeth but if it is stained, it will not be adding any points to your personality. Everyone wants a great set of teeth that gives an extra boost when we flash that winning smile but as we age, our adult teeth inevitably changes in color and it becomes darker compared to that white teeth we used to have as a child. The changes in color may be attributed to lifestyle as the food we eat and our habit, if you are a smoker, can definitely affect our teeth. Changes in the mineral structure of our teeth where as we age it becomes less porous is also an inevitable factor.

Fortunately, teeth whitening solutions are now widely available online or in dental stores. One can opt for an in-office bleaching or at-home bleaching. Non-dental solutions are also available through salons, spa or mall kiosks. The cheaper alternative, if you are not in any hurry to have a whiter set of teeth, is doing it on your own through over-the-counter teeth whitening products. The ADA has published a list of acceptable whitening solutions to better guide the public on the appropriate solutions.

At-home gel bleaching solutions can be through high-concentration gel or low-concentration agents. The former offers faster results and is the same procedure done with in-office teeth whitening method. Using high-concentration of about 10 carbamide peroxide, the solution is applied to the teeth using thin plastic trays and should be left on for about 15 to 20 minutes. Make sure that the application trays are well-fitted and that there is an even and full exposure of the teeth to the solution. The procedure may be repeated up to two more times. Low-concentration teeth whitening method, on the other hand, is far less effective and more time consuming. It involves applying a strip or mouthguard containing the oxidizing agent to the teeth for several hours. The method should be done up to 7 to 14 days and the results may vary depending on the type of solution you take.

There are also home remedies suggestions that you may find online such as mixing table salt and lemon and applying it to the teeth. Some say this gives a real clean feel, too. There is also the more popular home-based solution which is applying baking soda. Many individuals have attested to this remedy that is done simply by mixing baking soda with water and applying it to the teeth in the same way as you would a toothpaste. Others also claim that by rubbing the back of an orange or lemon peel can help improve the color of your teeth.

Before doing any at-home

teeth whitening method, it is highly advisable that one should see a dentist first. Mainly, your dentist should see the placement and conditions of restorations. Your medical history, specifically any allergies or sensitivities to medicine will have to be declared, as well, to your dentist so you will be guided on the right teeth whitening solution for you.
