Lip enhancement is a type of non-surgical treatment that can temporarily enhance your natural lips, giving you more fullness and a defined lip line.
Sia Hendry, the owner of one of the best lip enhancement clinics in Sydney, Laser By Sia, says there is a lot of misinformation about lip enhancement procedures thanks to a few shonky operators and overdone Hollywood starlets.
"Many women are dissatisfied with their lips but are too scared to consider lip augmentation because a few clinics will overdo the lip fillers, leading to an obvious, unnatural look," Sia says.
"But when done correctly, lip augmentation can give you natural looking, luscious lips, as well as cure common problems like deep lip lines and lipstick bleed."
Sia explains that a loss of the natural fullness in the lips is a normal sign of aging and lip enhancement can not only plump the lips, it can also enhance lip definition and get rid of wrinkles without adding unwanted plumpness at all.
"Overall lip enhancement involves injecting a dermal filler into particular parts of the lips to enhance their natural shape, fill in wrinkles or lines and/or increase fullness," Sia says.
"For lip augmentation, collagen lip injections are done in the main, pink part of the upper and lower lips. This type of lip augmentation, when done well, should be undetectable.
"But many people don’t know that lip injections can also be used to enhance the lip line, or vermillion border, contouring the shape of the lips to help prevent lipstick bleed.
"As we age we can also get lip wrinkles. These wrinkles can include horizontal or upper lip wrinkles, caused by the lip folding when you smile, or vertical lip lines, often called smoker’s wrinkles, that can lead to lipstick bleed.
"Cosmetic injections smooth out these wrinkles without adding fullness if you don’t want it, for more youthful looking lips."
Sia says lip enhancement should never look overdone, but instead should complement that natural shape of your lips and face.
"Some clinics, even ones here in Sydney, just get lip enhancement wrong by overfilling or just doing only the upper or lower lip," Sia says.
"Before undertaking a lip augmentation at our Sydney clinics, experts assess the natural shape and volume of your lips and the placement of your mouth on your face, in order to enhance lips naturally with collagen injections.
"A good lip enhancement should include both lips, be undetectable and understated. I think much of the bad lip enhancement done in Sydney is due to unqualified practitioners.
"A qualified doctor should carry out all cosmetic injections and dermal filler procedures after rigorous sensitivity and allergy testing to ensure you are a suitable candidate."
