Part of the freelance mantra is to diversify your income stream. This may mean that you’re taking on more jobs than you can handle, or you are simply mismanaging your time.
If you want to learn how to get the job done without constantly feeling overwhelmed, you’ve come to the right place.
Too often people work hard to win a bid. Once the bid is won and you’re given a deadline, this deadline is often viewed as the day after you’re supposed to start working on the project. Not the case at all.
Once you’re given an assignment, ask yourself what you can do now to get you going? If it’s a big project, chop it up into smaller sections. This will make it more manageable and will help you avoid cramming to get it done.
Remember, high school is over; you’re a responsible adult, stop waiting until the last minute to turn in an assignment.
Review the terms of the project immediately. This will help you understand just how much time and effort you’ll need to invest in the project. This will also give you the chance to follow up with the client about anything that isn’t clear.
You may need to ask a few questions, due so within a 48 hour time frame. This sends the message that you are giving the project priority and care about its completion.
Set your own deadline. If your client gives you a deadline, that’s great, but what’s even better is setting your own deadline. Try to have the assignment done at least one day before your client wants it. This will help you get it done quicker, and give you time to check your work before actually submitting it.
Creating quality work and submitting it before the official deadline is a great way to build your client base. Your client will appreciate your enthusiasm as well as your speed. The bottom line is not to feel overwhelmed by a deadline.
Preparing in advance will help you take control of the situation. Read more at letshireafreelancer.com/blog
