It is easy to believe that we still adhere to the notion that bigger is stronger and stronger is better; this concept though is soon to be forgotten with the emergence of the netbook and its noticeable rise in popularity. The Medion Akoya E1210 is just one of the netbooks that are making the rounds in the market today and it seems that more models are coming up from various manufacturers.
So why are netbooks becoming very popular nowadays? One thing for sure, it’s not the powerful performance that we like to have with a desktop. Netbooks, which are significantly smaller, more lightweight, and priced lower, has had dramatic improvements in just a couple of years and new innovations have allowed it to improve its computing performance, closing the gap between it and its larger brethren the laptops or notebooks. The Medion Akoya E1210 alone, a relatively newcomer to the netbook arena, is built with specifications and features that can give a low end laptop a run for its money.
Most netbooks today rely on the same technology and veritably performs identically. Although its small size hinders it from being packed with superior hardware for a more powerful processing and computing performance, it is more than capable of providing smooth and fast operations with simple tasks such as web browsing, processing documents, and using applications with minimal memory and processing requirements.
The Medion Akoya E1210 and other netbooks can also differ in size, not going further at most 12 inches, and another difference that can make a big impact in decision making is the price. And the Medion E1210, sporting a ten inch TFT widescreen display which is regarded a giant in the netbook field, is tagged with a very affordable price for a netbook of such magnitude.
Looking closely at the Medion Akoya E1210, you will notice that it has numerous similarities to the netbook of MSI giving the impression that they both have the same manufacturer. The similarities can be found in the finish of the case or exterior body, its construction, and the layout of the connectivity ports, including three USB ports, Ethernet, mic and headphone jack, VGA out, and a 4 in 1 card reader.
What is essential though is what’s inside the E1210 notebook. This seemingly low capacity technology may seem inadequate in times like these when technology has allowed us to use our computers to virtually create and do anything. But with computing machinery in this size, this technology provides us the opportunity to have the proper equipment and tool even in situations where a powerful desktop is impossible to reach.
Deep inside the Medion Akoya E1210 is a 1.6GHZ Atom processor by Intel. Alongside it is a Gigabyte of DDR2 SDRAM memory, and an 80 GB HDD. For more connectivity options, the notebook has a built in draft-N wireless card, and a USB Bluetooth dongle.
One major setback for the Medion Akoya E1210 is its low battery capacity. When tested playing a movie using its battery, the unit was only able to operate for less than an hour and a half. Considering that the Medion E1210 is a netbook and netbooks generally have hardware that doesn’t require much power, one would expect to have more battery life.
Despite the poor battery performance, the Medion Akoya E1210 is still a netbook to reckon with. With features considered to be well sufficient for a computer in this level, the E1210 rises above the rest especially with its affordable price tag.
