If your bathroom is really a mess, then you need to start using some of these declutter ideas for organizing it now. Start out by checking out the medications (both prescription and over-the-counter) in the medicine cabinet. If there are any that are expired, throw them away. No questions asked. This is much more than just a clutter issue, it could be very dangerous.
If you have any cosmetics that have not been used in at least three months, whether they are expired or not, get rid of them. The reason why I say this it that, once they are opened, the oils with which they are made can go bad. Another thing, that should be tossed out, is any old toothbrushes. Dentists recommend that you buy new toothbrushes about every two months, but not many people do that. Now is the best time to do it.
One more thing you should do at this point is to get rid of that old toilet brush. It is probably filled with a bunch of bacteria and should be replaced on a regular basis. You can easily find a new one at any local discount store.
One bathroom decluttering tip is to use baskets for organizing items, especially small items such as hair accessories. You could either have a different basket for each family member or you could simple separate items by categories. Some individuals may prefer to store these baskets in the bathroom itself, but if the bathroom is small, then you may need to consider having each family member keep their "bathroom basket" in their bedroom (or in a nearby linen closet).
You may also want to consider putting in either shelving or a wall-mounted unit to help store necessary "stuff." You can either put towels in this area or you can store your shampoo bottles out of sight. If you decide to store towels, consider rolling them for storage instead of just folding them only. Give it a try, especially if you’re using only shelving and the towels will be "on display" so to speak.
The linen closet also needs to be looked at closely. If you have any towels that are frayed or have bleach stains. It is time to get rid of them. If you do not like the idea of throwing them away, then consider donating them to an animal shelter. Many shelters use towels to help keep their dogs and cats cozy. It keeps them from having to sleep on the hard floor.
How many towels does one family need? Every family should have enough towels to last for two weeks. The recommendation is that you should have two wash cloths, two beach towels, two bath towels (four for those family members who use an extra towel to wrap their wet hair) per family member. Additionally, you’ll want two sets of hand towels as well.
