We have 100,000 hairs on our head that which each hair shaft has three layers with cuticle (outside layer). The cuticle is protecting the two inner layers from heat, sun, chlorine and all other hazards from our environment.Cuticle lie flat and reflect light cause hair to shine.Shiny hair is a sign of healthy hair.
There are two type of hair; straight and curly.Sebum (natural oil on the hair) covers straight hair better than curly hair. That why the straight hair can appear shinier.
Types of hair.
Different hair type needs different hair care. Most important is all hair needs gently treat especially when it’s wet.Wet hair can stretch treat and making it to breakage or cuticle damage.Heat styling product i.e hot blow.Dryer can damage our hair when being used on very wet hair.Especially, for people who curly and dry hair, you need to take extra careful when using heat styling products.
During adolescence,we will find out hair gets oily because the hair follicles contain sebaceous glands that make sebum to moisturize the hair and skin. The sebaceous glands may become overactive and producing more oil than needed. But don’t worry, oily hair is usually a temporary part of puberty.
Washing your hair everyday or more shouldn’t harm it,as long as you treat your hair gently when it’s wet.You better choose a mild shampoo instead of a shampoo designed for oily hair if you’re washing it frequently .If you have oily hair and want to use a conditioner, you should try to use a conditioner that’s made for oily hair. For some people who have dry hair, you may wash it less frequently.
Activity Level and interests
You do need an extra care if you play sports or spend a lot of time at the beach because these activities can affect your hair. For example, if you are an athlete with oily hair, you may need to wash your hair after working up a sweat during games. But if you are a lifeguard or a swimmer, sun and saltwater (or the chlorine in pool water) can just dry your hair out, no matter what type of hair.If you are exposed to sun, wind and other elements, you may want to use a shampoo designed for dry hair or use a conditioner. It is an additional protection for your hair if you wear hat when you are outdoors.
Hairstyle
Heat styling products such as curling and straightening irons can dry out your hair if used too much. You must follow the instruction carefully and don’t use on wet hair or high settings. You may need to stop from styling once in a while.
Chemical treatments to color, straighten or curl your hair also can harm hair if not used properly. Therefore, you need to ask the hair stylist because they were trained in applying chemicals to hair; evaluate your hair type and decide which chemicals will work on you.
Color treatments especially permanent treatment can cause hair loss, burning, redness and irritation. Some types also can cause allergic reactions on certain people. Before it become serious, you need to talk to your stylist about your sensitivity to the products especially before using a product.
To keep your hair healthy, one of the best way is do regular haircuts. It can help you protect the ends of your hair from damage especially splitting. In fact, your hair may grow better after cutting.
