Many people choose to do their own landscaping. Some designs and the way they turn out actually looks like it was professionally done. Not only did they do a fabulous job and save a lot of money, but they can feel proud that they actually did it with their own hands.
To get the job done first you’ll need a variety of tools to start with. Every property depending on size and the condition of the upkeep will determine what tools you’ll need to get. Then determining the kinds of plant in your landscaping scheme and the complexity of your design you’ll need additional tools later.
Here are some of the basic tools of landscaping that you’ll need and again it depends on the final design of you landscaping. A good pair of gloves, a variety of rakes shovels and pruning tools is some essentials that you’ll need. The type of pruning tools from knives, shears, loppers, to saws or other kinds of cutters will be determined by the type of plants you grow.
You’ll need a lawn mower if you plan to have a lawn and if it is a big lawn you might want to get a riding mower to save time and backache. Also to get to and around the hard to reach areas a weed whacker comes in handy. The best ones come with a variety of attachments to cut different kinds of weeds and to fit in to different tight areas.
Now if your property is overgrown with tall grasses, heavy brush or even young saplings you’ll probably want to invest in a brush cutter or at least rent one. These guys are great for the really overgrown or marshy properties. A brush cutter will really save you a lot of time and pain especially if your property is so overgrown that you don’t know where or how to start.
Most people already have an idea in their head of what they want their landscape to look like, but if you need help with ideas and you want your design planned down to the small details you can get landscaping software.
The landscaping programs can also help you find the right kinds of plants and the types of soils they will need to thrive. You just type in where you live and it will figure out the details for your area. Some landscaping programs can even figure out the estimate cost of the plants from different stores.
Of course you could go to your neighborhood garden shop and ask them the same questions and they’ll be glad to help you out. In fact your local garden shop may actually have better suggestions than the computer software. Having been in the area for so long they’re sure to know what plants grow good in your area.
If you are going to get fancy and build things like trellises, fences and walls then you’ll need the appropriate tools also for those projects. Now day’s people even put in their own ponds and fountains. The options are endless.
There is so much information out there it is much easier today for the do it yourself landscaper than ever before and with more options. Many stores also cater to the do it yourselfer and have books and supplies to put in things like a pond, a rock garden or even a fountain. You can be as creative as you like and can afford.
