You're probably wondering why go modern, why do electric? What can a tea kettle do for me? Well, give you the best tasting drinks, while being energy efficient, to begin with.
An electric teapot is focusing all of it's heating elements directly on the water. This makes for a faster cooking time, and wastes less energy. When you boil water on the stove it'll take about ten minutes, whereas the modern option will do it in about three or four minutes.
And if you step away in those three to four minutes, no problem. Most kettles have an automatic shut off feature, as well as a "keep warm" function. This means that if you get distracted and come back twenty minutes later, your drink will still be at the perfect temperature, and you won't have boiled the pot dry.
The next thing to understand is that over boiled water tastes flat, and the water you stick in the microwave tastes awful. You may not have noticed this if you've been making your drinks this way for years, but that will make the difference in taste stand out all the more on your first drink from an electric tea kettle.
A lot of the nicer ones have different temperature buttons for different types of tea. You may not be aware of this, but different teas are meant to be drunk at different temperatures. In fact, if you've never really liked white and green teas (or if you're in love with them) you'll definitely want to try it from a modern pot, because when over boiled these teas taste harsh and bitter. Drinking your tea at the right temperature will change your entire tea experience.
While you may feel sad to stop using your favorite decorated teapot that you've had for years, you can set it out as decorative, or pour your tea from your modern kettle into your old pot when you have guests over for show. Once you notice the difference in flavor, you'll better appreciate what modern technology has brought you.
There are a lot of benefits to using an electric water kettle. Before buying, compare different electric tea kettle options to get the one that's right for you.
