The issue on baldness is not limited to men as a large number of women are affected by it as well. However, because of lack of right knowledge on the subject, there are myths about female hair loss, which are believed by many women. Among these are the following:
• If you are a woman and you have hair loss, it means that you are washing your hair more often than you should
• Female hair loss is caused by excessive combing and brushing
• Permanent hair loss in women can be caused by hair perms and coloring dyes
• Female hair loss can be caused by wearing wigs and headgears
• If you have thinning hair, you can make it thicker by shaving your scalp
• Thinning hair is a sign that your brain is over active
• A miracle cure for hair loss is out there waiting to be found
• If you are going to browse on the internet, you will find all kinds of miracle medicines for female baldness that are offered for sale
If you have heard one of these myths, your best course of action would be to avoid them. Once you have done it, there are a number of choices that you can consider but first, you must find a way to accept the changes that hair loss will bring to you and live with the situation. This can be hard to do though. Although most men struggle to cope with baldness as well, at least it is being equated to power and maturity by people. Such is not the case with women.
You can try having cosmetic treatments to hide the condition such as hair thickeners or wigs or you can have a medical therapy. If these do not work, your last option would be a hair replacement operation. In addition, a drug called minoxidil has been used with some effectiveness by women who have hair loss. A form of the drug can now be bought which can be applied directly on your scalp. However, it is not known how the drug works against female baldness and not everyone can be cured by it. Further, it has been shown in studies that only around 20 percent of women between 18 to 45 years of age who have used it were able to have moderate growth of hair, while for 40 percent of them the growth was only minimal.
