If you're struggling as a vegetarian, having a difficult time finding easy foods to eat in your grocery store, you should consider investing in a food processor. This might seem like an odd solution to the problem, but these appliances make preparing whole foods easy, and can really open doors to you in your cooking.
With a modern and well made food processor you can mince, slice, dice, puree, or knead doughs. These are the tasks in the kitchen that really take up a lot of your time when you want to go and cook.
As a vegetarian, you can't go to the store and buy a can of clam chowder, and it can be very time consuming to sit at home, chopping potatoes, and working for an hour to make yourself some chowder of your own. With this appliance, however, you through in your potato and whatever else you need to chop (broccoli, red pepper, onion, etc) and then that's good to go! And then it just becomes a matter of mixing the ingredients together and letting it cook on the stove.
Another example is things like spreads, salsas, and dips. A lot of them have beef fat, chunks of meat, or gelatin in them. Instead of simply buying an item, eating becomes an exhausting exercise in ingredients list reading. With a food processor this is a fast and simple process, and you're going to have much fresher tasting, nutritious, and delicious food! Free of preservatives and everything else they stick into premade foods.
For instant, you can throw some tahini, chickpeas, and garlic (along with olives, asparagus, artichoke hearts, or whatever else you which) into the food processor, press a button, and you have hummus! Throw in tomatoes and dice them, add some onions, pineapple, cilantro (or whatever else you want) and you have salsa! Get some avocados and make your own guacamole. It's really that simple and fast, and pretty soon you're omnivore friends will be impressed with your cooking skills and wonder how they can make things like this themselves, too.
So not only should struggling vegetarians look into a food processor to make meal preparation much easier, but also because it will make getting the proper nutrients that much easier. When you're eating whole foods instead of ding dongs out of a box, you're going to be getting a lot more nutrition in your food. If you switch up what you're eating every day, and vary the colors of your foods, you're going to be eating a much healthier and more varied diet than you probably were in the past. Using a food processor makes eating healthier a much easier and fun task.
There are a lot of great options out there today. You can choose from features, like a stainless steel or brands like black and decker food processor, or there is the popular mini food processor for those looking for something smaller and cheaper.
