Pain is one of the most common symptoms of health problems and the leading cause for people to visit doctors all over the world. Pain is quite varied in its manifestation and causes, so it's very important to have means for managing it effectively. Fortunately, the medicine can offer a lot of various forms of pain relief, the most common and popular of which are of course painkiller medications. There are a lot of drugs that are used as painkillers for managing different types of pain. The most common types include:
Painkillers
Painkillers are probably the most common substances consumed for pain relief. Most painkillers are sold without needing a prescription and are more suitable for relieving acute pain. Most painkillers act by decreasing the intensity of nerve pain signals sent to the brain through the nervous system. This makes these drugs ideal for rapid pain relief before providing actual treatment. However they aren't really helpful for longer periods of time, since the pain will come back as soon as their effects wear off. That's why it is highly recommended to seek medical assistance if the pain is too strong and you are taking painkillers to stop it on a regular basis. Painkillers won't promote healing, they will only help you get rid of the painful sensations for some time.
Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs)
Anti-inflammatory drugs aren't painkillers in the classic understanding of it, but they are often used as analgesics because of their ability to soothe pain associated with inflammatory processes. And because it's a very common cause for painful sensations, NSAIDs are a quite common option for pain relief. Of course, taking even the most advanced anti-inflammatory drugs won't do much if you experience pain caused by factors other than inflammation (neuralgia, for example). But if you suffer from inflammatory processes there is a wide range of drugs that will help you out. The most common NSAID is of course aspirin, which was introduced more than a century ago and remains one of the most popular medications for a variety of conditions up till now. Advanced and latest medications like the COX-2 inhibitor are the most recent generation of NSAIDs that help overcome rapidly and effectively painful symptoms caused by such conditions as arthritis, menstruations, ankylosing spondylitis and many others.
Opioid analgesics
Opioids are the most widely used type of painkillers used in the world. They combine the effectiveness of typical painkillers with a long period of efficacy, which makes them suitable both for acute and chronic pain conditions. Opioids work by blocking specific receptors in the brain that are responsible for interpreting the nerve pain signals transmitted to the brain. This makes opioids such as Tramadol highly effective for nearly all types and forms of pain known to man. There are different types of opioids and in fact there are even natural opioids that are produced in our bodies as well. However, the concentration of these substances is normally too low to compete with synthetic opioids such as Tramadol that provide the same effects only to a wider extent. But using these substances without doctor supervision is highly discouraged because they can harm the body if used in a wrong way.
