Egyptian jewelry has a distinct look that gives it a feel so different from other jewelry out there. Egyptian rings, for example, look like they have come out of some sort of Hollywood movie, with a texture so perfect and unique. But because there isn't that much of a supply of this type of jewelry any more, artisans are making versions of it.
There are many different styles and just to think that Egyptians were able to make this kind of jewelry long ago is amazing. Just like Egyptian necklaces which are made into perfect circles and all of them have more than one strand. These pieces have multiple layers. They are also very colorful and majority of them are bigger than your normal necklaces- big enough to cover your entire neck, in fact, including your collar bone and then some.
There once was a time when the jewelry that the Egyptians wore were more than for aesthetics. Jewelry was not only just for beauty to the Egyptians, but for many different things that concern their lifestyles and beliefs. Their jewelry was a part of their religion or may even be thought to have some kind of magical significance for some. They believe that the jewelry would protect them from evil if when worn.
The first pieces of jewelry that Egyptians made were sourced from branches of plants that they used on a day to day basis. Other things that were used to make the jewelry that they wore consisted of shells, stones, as well as beads and sometimes, bones. The things that they used to hold these things together were either flax threads or cow hairs. Everyone wants the things they wear to be pretty, right? So for the Egyptians to succeed in doing this, they painted the stones with glass. This was taking place during the Badari as well as the Naqada eras.
The Egyptians buried jewelry with the people who had passed away. To them, when a person died, all of his prized possessions should be placed in his tomb and buried with him, even jewelry. Some of the things found in tombs by later civilizations included waist belts, wreaths, crowns, hair bands, bracelets, rings, necklaces, anklets and earrings. All of these types of jewelry reached other parts of the world as well. What didn't gain popularity in other cultures though was the vest that the Egyptians wore around their chests. These vests were made of gold and sometimes, gold-plated metals.
Cartouche and Antique Egyptian Jewelry are some of the best things to add to your authentic collection. Those who can't afford to have genuine pieces can order some exceptionally crafted versions online.
