Preventing slips and falls in your plant or factory is an important part of worker safety. Preventing accidents and ensuring you do your best to avoid accidents and injury claims is a smart business model and help preserves profits and worker morale. While not all accidents are preventable, there are some steps you can take to help slip proof your plant's flooring and provide a safe, comfortable work environment. Easy to implement, inexpensive and offering great safety returns on your investment, there are several ways you can make your flooring safer and ensure workers are less prone to falls and slips. Here are the top ten steps to prevent slip and fall accidents in your plant facility, follow them and reap the benefits of a safe environment.
First, coat your floors with an anti-slip coating. Easy to apply and available in many colors, non slip coatings can increase traction and prevent falls. Non slip coatings come in many colors and textures so you can customize your look to fit your plant. Second, in addition to non slip coating, instruct employees to wear anti slip shoes. Instructing employees to wear shoes with proper traction will go a long way in preventing slips and help employees be mindful of safety precautions and preventive steps.
Third step is to mop up any liquids or spills immediately. Never let liquids sit and puddle. Be sure all machinery and equipment is in good working order and do not leak oil or lubricants on the floor. fourth step should be sure all cables, cords, pipes and other items are not lying in walkways and do not crisscross other items and lay across floors posing a tripping threat.
Fifth, clean up all spills immediately and post warning signs in wet areas so people know to use extra caution when walking through spill areas. Sixth step to help prevent slip and falls is to check to make sure flooring is even and does not slope, warp or pose other tripping and falling threats because the floor is uneven.
Seventh step is to use ample lighting to illuminate all work and walking areas. Use overhead and task lighting to provide the most light and keep work areas well lit and safe. Eight step is making sure all work areas and walk ways are free from clutter and nothing is on the floor to provide a tripping hazard.
Ninth step to help prevent slip and falls is to always keep your cupboard, drawers and cabinets closed so they do not intrude on or impede walkways and work areas. And finally, mark all walkways with clear signs and paint striping so workers and visitors know which areas are safe to walk in and stay out of dangerous or off limits areas. Following these steps will help you create a safe working environment and prevent slips, falls and accidents. Preventing the number of accidents in your plant helps increase staff morale, decreases workers compensation claims, increases productivity and helps makes the working environment clean, organized, pleasant and safe. Implement these tips as soon as possible and tell your employees about the new changes. Getting everyone on board for slip and fall prevention and informing them on how to work smartly, safely and effectively will help your plant grow and run smoothly. Safety always comes first, so do not delay. Act now and implement these strategies to prevent slip and fall accidents in your plant facility.
