However clicheed it may sound, spring really is the ideal season for change. With the weather getting warmer, people shed some of their winter layers and tend to get more daring with their looks, showing off more skin.

If you're looking for simple ways to update your look for the spring, you've come to the right place.

Style

Why not spring clean your wardrobe? There must be a fair few items in there that you no longer want to wear. Donate these to charity and refresh your wardrobe with a few key pieces or accessories.

See what's trending in the shops. Common spring fashion features are animal prints, pastel shades and floral patterns. Try on clothing that you wouldn't normally consider. Stepping out of your comfort zone is the best way to find something that will truly make people turn heads when they see you.

If that sounds a little too over the top, colour is a simple way to update a classic look. Carry on wearing your timeless pieces such as jeans, black tops, blazers and cardigans but add in some funky colours and patterns with the addition of a scarf or a shawl.

Alternatively, fork out for a trendy hat in the colour of your choice. Beanies, trilbies and fedoras are all bang on trend, pioneered by celebrities such as Alexa Chung and Pete Docherty.

Makeup

For makeup wearers spring is so much fun. Go all out with colour. Wear more rouge than you do during the winter. Try new tones of eyeshadow. Light blues and greens can really highlight the eyes. Just be careful not to clash with your outfit.

Paint your nails too. There'll be no more gloves hiding them and this should be celebrated. Fun spring colours include orange, green and pink. Don't be afraid to experiment.

Hair

Updating your hairstyle needn't cost the earth. If you're just looking to have a trim or tidy your fringe, you might not even need to go to a salon. To trim a male haircut, enrol the help of a trustworthy friend and a pair of professional hair clippers. For ladies, you'll need a pair of regular cutting scissors and some thinning scissors. These are quick and easy fixes. Make sure your helper has steady hands and experience though!

If you do opt for a professional haircut or style, experiment with some highlights. This isn't as extreme a transformation as the full on hair dye treatment.
