How Emu Oil is Benefits and Uses of Emu Oil

Emu oil studies have revealed it to have many benefits.

In the United States, emu farming became popular in the 1980's due to the extremely anti-inflammatory oil taken from the bird’s fat.

These days there are around half a million emus in America providing their lean red meat and amazing oil to an increasing market.

Used on our skin, the oil makes it softer, more elastic and younger looking.

Emu Oil and Australian Aborigines

The Aborigines, Australia’s indigenous population, have used this oil for milennia. They still use the oil to this day as natural medicine to help cure burns, wounds, sunburn and to ease joint and muscle pain.

Throughout the world, users have testified to and proved these many benefits.

Skin Benefits

Emu oil soaks into the skin as fast if not faster than any other oil known, whether animal or vegetable.

Thus, as a moisturizer, it acts on the surface of our skin and the many layers of skin below.

It is one of the best natural skin moisturizers known, and gives body to thinning skin which occurs with aging or with some skin conditions like eczema and psoriasis.

Because the oil soaks so far down into the skin its anti-inflammatory properties make it useful to help treat joint and muscle pain and rheumatism and arthritis.

It is also often used in the pharmaceutical industry as a trans-dermal carrier of topical medicine.

Indeed, the current author was prescribed a corticosteroid cream for a skin condition and, once applied, he then applied the oil on top to help the cream’s penetration and to maintain his skin’s thickness and moisture.

The author believes the oil made the treatment time less than it would otherwise have been.

Emu oil also softens our skin and increases its elasticity so is often used to treat wrinkles and fine lines.

It is 100% safe to use so can even be applied gently around our eyes.

Essential Fatty Acids (EFAs)

Essential fatty acids provide the raw materials which help in the moderation of blood pressure, body temperature and clotting of the blood. They also enhance nutrient usage, develop and moderate cell metabolism and strengthen cell membranes.

Essential fatty acids are not formed in the body itself and need to be part of our diet or absorbed by emu oil applied to our skin.

Omega 3

Emu oil is naturally high in Omega 3 Essential Fatty Acid.

Omega 3 benefits our heart by increasing the density of lipoproteins (which is "good cholesterol") while at the same time reducing triglycerides (which is "bad cholesterol").

Omega 3 is absorbed by the body when applied to our skin.

Omega 6

Emu oil is also naturally very high in Omega 6 Essential Fatty Acid.

Omega 6 is a polyunsaturated fatty acid that works together with other fatty acids to create prostaglandins, substances essential for our general health.

Omega 6 is also absorbed by our body when applied to the skin.

Other Benefits

The oil can be safely used on all types of skin.

Emu oil is non-comedogenic which means it does not clog pores. Thus, it is used to help treat acne because of its moisturizing and anti-inflammatory properties.

The oil, in its pure state, is also hypo-allergenic so is used by people with sensitive skin and allergies as it has never been found to cause irritation.

The oil is used to treat the following conditions:

• Age spots

• Arthritis

• Growing pains

• Hair Loss

• Haemorrhoids

• Insect bites

• Itching

• Joint pain

• Colloids

• Lumbago

Grades of Emu Oil

About one and a half gallons of raw oil is extracted from an average fully grown emu.

Most oil available today is refined into a Standard Grade, that is yellowish, may need to be warmed before use, then shaken to eliminate any layers that have formed.

However, the most pure grade of emu oil is called Ultra Clear from which around half a gallon is obtained from the raw oil.

Ultra Clear is not surprisingly clear, doesn’t solidify unless it is extremely cold, thus does not otherwise need to be shaken and does not form into layers.

Ultra Clear is low-odor, penetrates into the skin even faster than the Standard Grade and has an incredible 45% higher concentration of anti-inflammatories than the Standard Grade.

How to Apply

The oil is applied directly onto affected areas of the skin or muscles or joints as often as required.

The current author is Ron Edwards who works with Emu Peak.
