Understanding the root of oily skin is important in any debate of oily skin care. The unnecessary production of sebum, a substance produced by the skin, leads to greasy skin. As is known to everybody, excess of everything is bad; so excessive sebum is bad too. It leads to the formation of acne because it clogs the pores, making dead cells accumulate. Your looks also will be spoiled with greasy skin. So, 'oily skin care' is as significant as the 'skin care' for other kinds of skin.

The removal of excess oil or sebum from the skin is the aim of oily skin care. However, complete removal of oil must be avoided. The utilization of a cleaner is the beginning of shiny skin care. Now all cleansers work, however. You need a cleaner which has salicylic acid i.e. A beta-hydroxy acid that retards the rate of sebum production. Cleansing should be done 2 times a day (and even more in hot and wet conditions).

While most oily skin products are oil-free, checking the ingredients before you buy is recommended. This is particularly important if a product is marked as 'suitable for all skin types', instead of 'oily skin care product'. 'Oily skin care' is also dependent on the degree of oiliness, if you are not too oily, so some of these 'suitable for all'- sort of products might be work for you too. Only oily skin creams are acceptable for highly shiny skin. For intensely oily skin, you should use an alcohol-based toner. After cleaning, this is the second step of your routine. However, you could harm your skin if you tone unduly.

A mild moisturizer is next on your routine. Again, the degree of oiliness of your skin will resolve whether you want to include this in your oily skin care routine. If you do make a decision to include a moisturiser, be certain to use one that's oil-free, wax-free and lipid-free.

Another skin care measure that you can use is a clay mask, and you may use this once a week or so.

You'll need to try several skin creams before you find one that's appropriate for your skin.

In case these measures don't give you the required result, consult a good dermatologist for recommendation. He could prescribe stronger oily skin care products like vitamin A creams, retinoids, sulphur creams etc, which can help counter the problems of greasy skin.
