In the south western corner of New Zealand's South Island lies a sparsely populated wilderness region which contains some of the most beautiful natural scenery in the World. This land of mountains, lakes, waterfalls and tranquil fiords - that give the region its name - is Fiordland National Park.

If you are limited on time and can't do an overnight on Doubtful sound, then Milford sound is still a fantastic experience and the trails on the way to Milford Sound are spectacular. You get to go through the narrow Homer tunnel on the drive in while you drive through the rain forests of the Fiordland National park, with lots of little walks and scenic stops along the way.

Two main travel packages are available for tourists who wish to experience the beauty of Milford Sound by ship. The Encounter Nature Cruise gives you an up-close look at the natural formations of the fjord. While a running commentary on the areas geology, flora and history will be provided.

The best way of having fun with Dolphins is by joining them in water and swimming along with these natural wonders. Dolphins just love the human company and mostly remain in a playful mood throughout the day. You can easily attract more Dolphins just be feeding them with small fishes.

Willowbank Wildlife Reserve provides visitors with the opportunity to watch, touch and even feed some of the country's native wildlife, including kiwi birds, wallabies, keas, lemurs and fresh water eels. The reserve also features nightly Maori Cultural Performances and an onsite restaurant that is open for lunch and dinner. The Reserve is open from 10am - 10pm year-round, with day and evening tours operating daily.

If you are looking for a place that offers some of the most diverse and exciting countryside in the world, you need look no further than New Zealand. From high mountains to icy glaciers, lush forests to breathtaking fjords, a New Zealand walking holiday will give you plenty of great landscapes to enjoy.

Some people may adapt this and manage a rushed New Zealand holiday in two weeks, but will have to reduce the suggested route further, or have quicker stops in some areas. This is itineray will take about 3 weeks , travelling time.

This national park located close to the city of Wanaka is named after the towering Mount Aspiring; one of the country's highest points. The park is one of the best places in New Zealand for walking and is a serene dreamland of glaciers, mountains and alpine lakes.

The most interesting park of New Zealand, compared to no others is, without any doubts, Fiordland National Park. Its boundless and truly wild territory is full of wonderful gorges and rocks, unusual animals and birds, beautiful and astonishing plants. You can get to the Fiordland by its Milford Road running from Te Anau. The only park that could compete with Fiordland is Kahurangi National Park in the island’s north.

Peak season is December to February when prices are of course much higher but a Spring or Autumn trip can still be reasonably priced if you don't fancy the Southern Winter! I must say though that in August we didn't experience unduly extreme weather conditions other than in the mountains.
