Excessive hair loss is a stressful condition. People become anxious every time they comb or shampoo their hair as they experience a great deal of hair loss. Experts believe that some amount of hair loss is normal but when you start shedding hair at an alarming rate you must seek treatment before it progresses into balding. This is because it is easier to control hair loss in the initial stages. When controlled early, you will not have to deal with bald patches that are sure to look unattractive.
Though hairs aren’t the most important part of our body and many men are able to adjust to a baldhead, others feel extremely frustrated because of the condition. Traditionally, men associate hair with masculinity, virility and attractiveness. A balding head, especially in men who experience it early on in their lives such as when they are in their 20s or 30s, can become extremely bothersome. Men therefore desperately seek hair loss treatment that can help them maintain a healthy, flowing mane.
About hair loss treatment
Since ages, men have been striving to find a perfect treatment for hair loss. Every thing from animal waste to herbal concoctions to oils, shampoos and chanting of mantras has been tried but nothing has worked as expected. However, it is only recently that men have begun using medications such as Propecia for hair loss treatment, which is by far the most effective treatment for male pattern baldness – one of the most important causes of hair loss in men.
Various male hair loss treatments
Given below is a brief description for various popular hair loss treatments available on the market:
Herbal oils and shampoos – Use of herbal oils and shampoos is quite popular. However, there is little research to prove their effectiveness. While some of these treatment products may prove moderately effective in some men, the same can’t be said of all the products that are available on the market. Experts warn people from falling prey to advertisements by manufacturers that claim to guarantee you instant cure for baldness; they are usually fake.
Hair transplant – This is usually the last resort. When all other methods prove ineffective, your doctor may recommend surgical hair transplant. In this method, resistant hair follicles from the back and sides of the head are transplanted to the person’s balding or thinning areas on the head. Though effective, hair transplant is an expensive and time-consuming treatment.
Minoxidil – This is an FDA approved treatment available by the trade name Rogaine. You can buy minoxidil lotion over the counter. To get effective results, you’ll need to massage minoxidil lotion into the scalp twice a day. It can be used by both men and women.
Propecia – It is a prescription medicine for men available in a pill form. It is one of the most effective and preferred treatments for hair loss. The active ingredient in Propecia is called finasteride. You’ll need to take one 1mg tablet each day. Propecia treatment helps to control hair fall and stimulate new hair growth as well.
Side effects of hair loss treatment
A variety of hair loss treatments are available today and men must use them with caution. Extra care should be taken while using non-prescription medicines. This is because regulatory norms are comparatively relaxed for such treatments. Many scam artists take advantage of this and include ingredients that may prove to be harmful. When using prescription drugs always consult a doctor to know if the treatment will be suitable for you. Inform the doctor about your medical conditions and the medicines that you may be taking; ask the doctor if you are at a risk of experiencing adverse side effects of the treatment.
