Choosing the Right Rehab Center

Probably one of the most difficult decisions a person or person’s family can make is to go into a drug rehab facility. The difficulty comes from the person admitting to one’s family and to themselves that they have a substance problem and seek the necessary help. The hardest thing to do next would be choosing the most appropriate rehab center. There are several things that can be considered in order to make this decision a little less stressful.
The first thing to consider when choosing a rehab center is the addict’s individual substance problem. Every addict’s substance abuse is unique and can vary in severity. For instance, if it is a fairly new addiction then an out-patient program, which means day treatment and the person is permitted to stay at home, may be far more affective; but, if the addict has been dealing with their addiction for a long period of time then and in-patient or residential program maybe required. An in-patient or residential program is one where an addict lives in the treatment facility for a set amount of time.
The next thing to consider is cost. Some drug rehab centers can be very expensive, which can be a problem for addicts that do not have insurance. A person with no insurance will want to stay away from the most expensive rehab centers; they will be able to get just as good treatments at a cheaper center. Cost does not mean better programs; it may just mean a bigger and prettier building.
Another thing to consider is if the addict or addict’s family would want medications to be used during treatment or not. Traditional drug rehab will use medication from the start, during detox and withdrawal, right to the end of the program. Drug free rehab will only use the mental abilities of the addict with the aid of counseling in order to aid the addict in every step of the drug rehab process. If a traditional drug rehab is chosen it is wise to make sure that there is a licensed medical staff available or in the rehab center itself.
The last thing that might need to be considered is whether or not families are allowed to be directly involved in the drug rehab process. Some facilities prohibit it, but as the family is clearly affected by drug addiction, it may be well worth finding a center that allows an addicts family to be involved. This means that one needs to look at what family programs are available, is the addict taught how to treat his/her family, and if group therapy is available. Drugs affect everyone around the addict, so it is essential that they be involved in at least a small part of the drug rehab process.
These tips can help in choosing the right rehab center. As stated above, each addiction is as unique as the person, so the treatments will need to be unique as well. If there is still trouble in finding a center, there are professionals that can help in this area, usually free of charge.
