Annoyed by the extreme perspiration under your arms? Are you embarrassed by the odor it produces? Certainly, it is caused by the over reaction of the sweat glands to certain stimulus. Because of this, they tend to produce more than the usual amount of sweat; soaking your underarms with the filthy fluid.
Sweating is a normal body function. It helps lowering the body temperature by excreting sweat. It also helps in the lubrication of the skin whenever there is an upsurge of friction between the body parts. Our underarms do have a high concentration sweat glands compared to the lower arms and legs. Along with the sweat glands, sebaceous or the oil glands aid in the overall sweating process. The oil it produces is a perfect medium for the bacteria to thrive on. The resulting waste product excreted by the bacteria causes the foul underarm odor. It can be noted that during the period of excitement or fear, the nerve endings relays the signal from the brain to these glands making us to sweat profusely. And this form of reaction is favorable for the growth of microorganisms.
Well it is embarrassing to have this problem. Good thing, there are some ways to stop excessive perspiration.
Hygiene. It is really important for us to maintain and regularly clean our body. This will not only make us feel fresh and comfortable, it will also remove the microbes that causes the unwanted body odors.
Temperature. Our body is sensitive to the outside temperature. And by this, our system compensate by producing sweat to decrease the it. So try avoiding places with high humidity and extreme heat.
Spicy Foods. Though it does not literally make your core temperature increase; but the feeling of burning sensation in our mouth is enough to trigger impulses for you to produce sweat. If you identified yourself to sweat excessively after eating a certain food, try avoiding these to prevent it from occurring.
Stress. Stress is one of the culprit of excessive sweating. When you are tense, you tend to increase your body temperature; making your sweat glands active and produce sweat. Try doing some relaxation technique to decrease your stress. It is important to calm yourself and maintain your composure to decrease the level of stress you are experiencing.
Constricted Clothing. Friction that is produced by these clothes can activate sweating. Remember that if the body sense that there is an increase in temperature, caused by inappropriate ventilation or rubbing of skin, the sweat glands are activated to produce sweat. Try loosening up your clothes to prevent the occurrence of friction. Ventilation is the key to lower the body temperature thus avoiding sweating.
Antiperspirants. Antiperspirants can actually prevent sweating. The aluminum ions from these products are absorbed by the cells around the sweat ducts. Due to osmosis, these absorbed ions makes the cells swell, shutting the duct and preventing more sweat to come out. Use antiperspirants regularly and as indicated by your need.
Disease and Medication. Sometimes, hyperhydrosis is a symptom of an underlying disease. Grave's Disease has a manifestation of excessive sweating. Some medications, like the one used to treat HIV, have an adverse reaction of over production of sweat. In this case, to treat hyperhydrosis, you have to cure the disease that causing it. Also, after you have finished your course of drug therapy, it is likely that the symptom will fade away.
Surgical Intervention. Endoscopic Thoracic Symphatectomy is now advised to patients who are having extreme cases of hyperhydrosis. The intervention requires a small incision and a certain probe will be inserted to locate and cut the symphatetic nerve chain in your thoracic cavity. It is actually proven effective. But of course, similar with other operation, it entails some irreversible effect if done improperly. This type of intervention is allocated for the person whose hyperhydrosis affects his/her activities of daily living.
Surely, excessive sweating is a major problem to anyone. But with different managements available, one can find an appropriate method to deal with it. When you opt to undergo surgical intervention, you should consult first with a doctor and discuss it thoroughly. And always remember that going all natural is the best solution of all.
