Why Are My Ears Ringing?
Many people toward the middle of their lives tend to experience some sort of sudden ear ringing. The probable cause is a condition known as tinnitus. Contrary to popular belief, this is not a disease, and it is not deadly. The word usually refers to a condition in which a person has foreign objects in their ears. This could be anything from ear wax to dust, or it might even be a side effect of medication. For the most part though, sudden ear ringing is the result of noise induced hearing loss.
Something that you need to understand is that the ringing is not going to go away on its own. There are other types of ear ringing, and they might go away after a few seconds. These are normally not anything to worry about. In addition to this it is unlikely that you will develop ringing ears if you are under forty years of age. Also the issue is normally something that occurs more often in men than women.
Before you determine whether or not you have tinnitus you need to ask yourself a few questions. For instance, what have you been doing? If you were listening to loud music through earphones, then you might experience sudden ear ringing as a result of this. It isn't always a sign of tinnitus, but you can try taking the earphones off for a while to see if you experience the problem in your everyday life.
The question to ask yourself at this point is whether or not you need medical attention. To determine this ask yourself how bad the problem is. If it is sticking around and becoming more severe, you need to seek medical attention. It is quite possible to experience damage if you let it go on too long, particularly because ringing ears is usually an early warning sign for something else.
There are a number of things that can go wrong in your ears, but ringing ears usually indicates that you have a deeper problem. If you suspect this, then speak to your doctor as soon as possible. He or she will recommend a course of action, whether it be tinnitus medication, or perhaps more invasive treatments. But make sure you do get the problem taken care of because this is a serious issue. These are your ears we're talking about, and if anything happens to them you will be in some serious trouble. This is definitely something to think about. So talk to your doctor, read up on the condition and take sudden ear ringing seriously. Most of all, make sure you take care of yourself and your ears, after all you only get one pair.
