The financial slowdown has numerous people distressing about the long-term fate of their "life plans" and also short-term destiny of their professions. Inside the corporate world, a few executives are wondering "If I agonize, or focus a lot on what can go wrong, is that the reality I create?"
What’s wrong with worrying?
When "worry thoughts" take up our minds, we give permission unhelpful thoughts establish our future. Besides adversely affecting our health and relationships, concern keeps us alert on what we don’t care for. Once we worry, our brains are in reality in a condition of "fight or flight", incapable of determining what we wish for or incapable to remain receptive to imaginative thoughts.
Let us be clear. Calmly acknowledging what is or what might possibly fail is extremely different than worrying and focusing only on what can go wrong.
How to adjust your judgment?
The 1st measure to cut loose from worrying is to be conscious of how you are feeling as you obsess on what could go wrong. Is your heart speed elevated? Is your neck or gut tight? Your temple furrowed? Using your emotions as key indicators, you will see that when you agonize you don’t feel at peace, and when you think that powerfully, you feel at peace and stimulated.
What we predict is known as a matter of choice. So when we worry, we always have the alternative to select thoughts that switch off "fight or flight" feelings, and new enthusiasm will move us in a path that serves our intention. The next time you catch yourself worrying, try this:
· Observe that you’ve slipped into a "fight, flight, or freeze" mode.
· Name your feelings and divide the positive from the pessimistic. (For example, "There go my worry thoughts," or "Here come my scared-out-of-my-mind thoughts, again.")
· Breathe out as much as you can, then take a deep breath.
· Ask yourself, "What can I think, say, or do in this moment that’s in support of the greater good?" (The greater good may be the example you are setting, the civilization you want to make, the increase of the people you serve as a leader, or the short and long-term well-being of the Corporation. When you ask the question, the answer will come to you.)
· Re-invoke the condition of question. Ask yourself questions that bring about wonder and possibility: If you could modify the situation, what would it look like? How can you be prepared? If something has gone wrong, what can you do to fix it? How can you stay on course? How can you adjust the course? How can you be of uppermost and finest service to your users, suppliers, workers, and investors?
Controlling thoughts keep us in a state of vision and possibility, moving us in the direction of what we would like, even in the most demanding times. When we practice managing our feelings, we find inspiration and peace. It is then that the dreams on how to handle or surpass intricacy shine through, and we understand the right thing to do. It is then that we accomplish large consequences.
Always remember that in our position as executives, it is our duty to offer an inspiring vision for others to move toward.
Always remember Proverbs 29:18
"Where there is no vision, the people perish; but he that keepeth the law, happy is he."
Keep your thoughts encouraging. It sure beats the alternative.
May God bless you.
