It is a known fact that there are things that are essential in your life to guarantee that you stay healthy and vigorous. Your golden retriever is no exception, as a pet owner you should ensure that your dog, to quote a famous proverb, is as healthy and fit as a horse, by meeting regular nutritional and other health requirements too. It is import to serve your golden retriever with a hearty and wholesome diet, with plenty of fresh air and regular exercise, keep in mind that can also benefit from these activities and at the same time strengthen your bond with your dog. Take your dogs for regular check ups to your vet clinic and do not forget to integrate proper grooming as part of your pet’s routine.
If you wish for them to be the best of health, here are some Golden Retriever tips that you should keep in mind.
Nutrition
As water always has a crucial part in our well being, the same principle is also applicable for your golden retriever puppy. Always make sure that they are fully hydrated by giving them easy access to clean fresh water throughout the day.
Pet owners even breeders have different ideas when it comes to an ideal dog diet, some suggest feeding their golden retrievers with homemade diet, while others fancy store bought dry foods or tinned dog foods. Although, advantages between two feeding methods are insignificant for as long as your dog is getting all the daily nutritional requirements he or she needs. But keep in mind that should refrain from giving your dog table scraps and other people foods as treats specifically those high in sugar as golden retrievers are known to have obesity problems. If you insist on giving your pets treats or reward him for good behavior then you can buy these from your local pet store, these stores sell a wide range of goodies along with golden retriever supplies such as raw hide bones and other treats which are excellent for their teeth.
Teeth Care
Establish your pet’s grooming routine and health check up as early as possible, just as you go to the dentist for regular check ups then it is also important to regularly check your dogs teeth and give them a brush, start brushing your dog’s teeth while they are still puppies, the earlier you start this routine the better, your golden retriever will be more likely to be at ease when it comes to tooth care.
You may use a regular children’s tooth brush on your dog’s teeth with toothpaste bought from a pet store. You can use your hand to hold the brush and use your other hand to gently lift your dogs lip and start brushing. While you are brushing always attentive and be on the look out for problem areas such as gum swelling, bleeding or chipped or broken teeth; you have deal with them immediately to avoid infections and other related health problems.
Ticks and fleas
It is almost impossible to avoid any tick or flea infestation even if your dog is well groomed. Parasite infestations should be attended to immediately and there are a number of options available at the pet store or vets clinics. While treating your dog you must also simultaneously do general cleaning by thoroughly vacuum the house, including sofas, pillows and cushions.
