The Maldives are heaven on earth and the perfect place for a wonderful relaxing holiday with good food, great people, beautiful weather and peace, perfect peace.

The Maldives holds the record for being the flattest country in the world, with a maximum natural ground level of only two metres above sea level. Only 200 of the nearly twelve hundred islands are inhabited, covered by lush tropical vegetation and palm trees. The Maldives’ most famous dive site, the Banana Reef, is in the area. This atoll is also a haven for surfers with the Maldives’ most famous surf break, ‘Cokes’ on the island of Thulusdhoo. The Maldives demands the attention of anyone looking for a uniquely indulgent break, breathtaking nature and sheer beauty that stays with you long after your tan has faded.

The yellow fin tuna run through the waters like marauding armies and, for the last 40 years, the tourists have come to join the fish. The Maldives being threatened by AGW driven "sea level rise" is pure myth. Great story, good passion play, but pure myth. The Maldives are malaria-free, but some islands do have mosquitoes and catching dengue fever from them is possible, albeit highly unlikely. For those coming from regions infected by yellow fever, an international certificate of inoculation is required.

It is generally warm and humid with year round sun shine. Average temperatures are around 29C to 32C. The Maldives are also in the world's top 5 for whale and dolphin watching, with a quarter of the world's species to be found here.

Dirt roads on resort islands are well kept by the resorts. Transportation in Male is either by foot or by readily available taxis that charge a fixed fee for any single journey. Diphenoxylate (Lomotil) and loperamide (Imodium) should not be given to children under age two. Diving supported is on spacious dedicated dhohi, three to four dives per day and nitrox is free.

Maldivians are warm, friendly and hospitable. The population is predominantly Muslim; on the capital of Male and other inhabited islands, modest clothing is recommended for women. Maldives luxury resorts give the opportunity to have a great time with family, friends, or even just alone. Luxury resorts in Maldives are a great getaway for the wealthy holiday makers. Maldives has been going through a period of political transition. Violent protests associated with the ongoing political reform process have occurred in Mal and on some non-resort islands.

For couples, honeymooners and incurable romantics, the crystal blue lagoons and stunning coral islands are a perfect destination. Each Maldivian island is unique, yet they are all idyllic, and every one provides Elegant Resorts clients with an exquisite luxury resort and the opportunity for pampering in renowned spa facilities.
