When we take a look at the saints in Christianity of Hinduism, we will quickly notice that if a person tries to abandon his life to God, God will then bound in that person. The crucial point about giving up oneself is how the person build ups a concept called pure love.

It is hard to give up control of a person if he/she doesn't have pure love within themselves. Pure love from one’s heart can even make the Divine serve you. God would like to see you are alerted by this Divine love so you can love like how He loves us and hence can distribute the words to others anywhere else. Then you become an instrument of his love. But to become an instrument of his love you have to let this pure love awakened within your heart.

Once the pure love is awoken, you will then see everything you do will be for Him. Sometimes even if you do something that is terrible wrong when viewing from the others but for the eyes of Him, it will be something good. But it does like if you are going to murder a person tonight and it will be good for Him.

If you have pure love in your heart and you are filled with this love, you then will commit yourself to God. A good example is Yashodarani, the mother of Krishna. The example began like that. Once a while little baby Krishna fell asleep on his mother's lap. The mother was busying praying with God. All of the sudden, the mother remembered she had left something on a fire. The milk was spilled over and start boiled on the flame so the mother left pots of butter everywhere. When the mother left the baby, Krishna got upset. He than started to teach her mother a lesson. He broke all the pots of whipped cream and when Yashoda came - of course she was not happy. Meanwhile Krishna ran away and hid himself in a corner. Yashoda went looking for Krishna. She found Krishna eating the whipped cream and he was also feeding the monkey. This made her even more angry. She went there and got hold of Krishna and said to him, "today I will teach you a lesson, I will tie you up". So she took a long rope and started tying Krishna.

However, how can the one that is not bound by the creation, with form or without form, also the creator, protector and destroyer will be bound by a rope?

Yashoda wanted to do it, but could not tie him because the rope was too short. So, she got more rope and more rope and still it was too short. But the One who yogis can't even reach through meditation, here she wanted to bind him. Yashoda, got tired, she could not understand what was happening. So Krishna looked and he saw so much love coming from her, so much dedication from her that he let himself be bound, not by the rope, but by her love. Because she was completely dedicated to him, she could bind him. She could tie him up.

This illustration shows how one wants to achieved the love of God. But one can't attain the love of God by studying, by austerities, by penance. The only thing that you really need to attain him is to awaken this pure love within your heart.

When this pure love from your heart awakens, you surrender yourself completely. And in this pure love you will find everything. And that's where surrender starts.

And when this pure love gets awakened, when surrender has started, it develops. It grows into the 6 steps of love. And the sixth step of love is when the Lord becomes very close to you. As you surrender to him he surrenders to you also. That's real spirituality" said Sri Swami Vishwananda.
