Up to fifty per cent of the sufferers with underlying liver conditions show no symptoms. The most common signs are very ordinary, such as excessive tiredness and exhaustion, lack of drive, and episodic itching. These signs of liver disease are more prominent: yellowing of the skin and eyes, known as jaundice, dark colored urine, very pale or light colored feces or bowel movements, bleeding from the gastrointestinal tract, disorientation, and fluid retention in the abdomen or belly.
The first signs of chronic liver malfunctioning are quite similar to those accompanying some other medical conditions. Very often, the symptoms show when the sufferer's liver is affected quite seriously. Patients suffering from a liver condition may also have eating disorders which can lead to rapid weight loss, frequent urination, and excessive drinking of water. Decrease in the consumption of food can lead to severe exhaustion and anemia.
Typically, the most common signs of liver failure, which can appear at first, are as follows: loss of appetite, nausea, diarrhea, weakness, fatigue, and lethargy. As the condition aggravates, the symptoms become more visible, eventually resulting in liver failure.
At the last stage, the liver has either lost its ability to function completely or has become cancerous. In case the organ is affected to this point, a transplant often becomes required for survival.
The sick person can become severely discolored, more notably than in the other phases of the liver disease.
Swelling of the abdominal cavity and other symptoms which started in the past phases will also dramatically grow in number. Sickness, diarrhea, appetite loss, and hallucinations may often occur in these individuals. The overall health condition may have the tendency to decline as well. The majority of symptoms can show early on in liver failure, but they may not be identified until the disease enters its advanced stage. Other symptoms are:
Pale colored excrement: This occurs due to the liver's inability to produce bile. The stool grows dark colored because of the bile.
Jaundice: In fact, this is the chief sign of liver failure. When jaundice is present, this indicates that there is a problem with the liver. In this condition, the colour of the skin changes to pale yellow. The white portion of the eye can also turn yellow. If the liver is not working properly, that oftentimes results in jaundice.
Severe itching: This is the the result of deposition of bile in the skin.
Abdominal pain: This is caused by enlargement and inflammation of the liver.
Increased bleeding and bruising: The patient bruises and bleeds more easily. The main reason is the inability of the liver to create important coagulant proteins.
Irregular levels of blood sugar: This happens because the liver is incapable of assisting the pancreas in carbohydrates' metabolism.
Other symptoms that can be experienced in the later stage of chronic liver failure are depression, muscle tremors, and even seizures.
The liver is an organ of vital importance, and it is wise to learn about knowing some common liver disease symptoms that occur. In my Health Balance Magazine, you will find informative articles and materials on the key liver functions, detoxification methods, and the ways to keep yourself fit.
