A recent survey in the U.S.A. by the "Centres for Disease Control and Prevention" (CDC) found traces of over 2000 environment chemicals in Americans. They include metals like arsenic, cadmium and pesticides.
As scientists get better at detecting chemicals in our bodies they’re discovering that even tiny quantities of toxins can seriously impact on our health. Even chemicals like bisphenol A (BPA) and phthalates which are key ingredients in modern plastics have been found to have an adverse effect on our health. The main problem has been in proving these chemicals are dangerous and are causing us harm.
Industry defenders point out that human exposure to BPA and phthalates is still way below safety levels set by governments but these figures were set years ago when little was known about the effects of them. The problem is the burden of proving their safety falls on the EPA, (Environmental Protection Agency) to prove they are unsafe, unlike drugs that have to be proven by the manufacturer themselves that they won’t cause any harm.
Today we are surrounded by chemicals and most of these have been extracted from crude oil which is the petroleum industry. There is estimated to be over 70,000 different chemicals in use now days, only a few which have been tested for safety and none that’s been tested for long term reaction like cancer. Many of these chemicals find there way into our bodies by various means and they do cause us harm. We breathe them in as in exhaust gases from vehicles or fly spays we use in the home. When we apply something to our skin as in sunscreens or cosmetics they enter our blood-stream as our skin will rapidly absorb anything that’s applied to it. Then we take them in directly with our food because of food additives and food colourings many of which are not even food.
The effects these chemicals have on our body are, they weaken our defence system and with a weakened immune system will allow cancer cells to develop. Some of the chemicals that are known to influence the immune system are chlorine, fluoride, pesticides, and the chemicals in smoke from smoking and all drugs, both recreational and medicinal.
Another commonly used chemical is formaldehyde and is classified as a probable human carcinogen by the U.S. EPA and a known carcinogen by the international agency for research on cancer. Formaldehyde is in the homes we live in as it’s in curtains, carpets, upholstery fabrics, insulation and many other items.
Hair dyes are made up of chemicals, many of them are carcinogenic and they carry a health warning for a very good reason. Epidemiological data has linked hair dye ingredients to bladder cancer and lymphoma which is cancer of the lymph system.
Sodium Lauryl Sulphate is a foaming agent and is in many shampoos and liquid soap. It is the cause of many health problems because it’s an irritant and is carcinogenic. It is commonly used today because it’s cheap. Propylene Glycol found in beauty creams, cleansers and make ups and is also an irritant.
Sodium Fluoride which is added to some water supplies is a by product of the aluminium and fertilizer industries and is rapidly absorb into our blood stream as the mouth is the most absorbent part of the body.
Food additives sodium nitrate and sodium nitrite which are found in many different meats such as pressed meat, hot dogs and bacon can lead to the foundation of a small amount of potent cancer causing chemicals.
A recent study of breast milk in England found that breast fed infants are receiving 40 times the allowable daily limit of toxic chemicals because of the increase in unregulated chemicals used in industries today.
Petrol now days contain the solvents toluene, benzene and xylene, all suspected of being carcinogenic and workers in the petro-chemical industry suffer from a much higher rate of bladder cancer.
When you finally realize that you are largely responsible for your own body and what you put both in it and on it so the most effective way to beat or avoid cancer is to remove the causes by addressing these issues.
