The city of Mendoza was created because of many reasons:it was intended to establish human presence in the Andean Piedmont, as well as the creation of a forested defense against avalanches. The city had to be re built completely after a terrible earthquake swept away the city almost to its roots. New infrastructure was built as the city was being rebuilt. It has been sought by local authorities to position Mendoza as a relevant touristic destination for passengers from all over the world. Mendoza has many attractions for visitors, natural sites and areas specially developed that have made of Mendoza one of the most beautiful cities of Latin America. Parque General San Martín is a place that must be seen.It is simply a place tourists will love. Carlos Thays was the landscaper who designed this park, inspired in French and English traditional landscaping. Even though the weather and the dry conditions of the soil were adverse, and the difficulties found when planting the first flora species, the park covers 320 hectares. This immense space located in the capital city of the has many different attractions within to seduce all visitors.

Cerro de la Gloria is one of the Parque San Martín’s highlights. There is a beautiful monument here dedicated to San Martín. The place used to be called Cerro del Pilar. The author was the Uruguayan sculptor Juan Manuel Ferrari. This monument, of 16 meters of height was created in 1941.

Parque San Martín is huge, and most definitely it will take more than one day to cover it entirely. To make the most of your visit, you will need more than just one day. Mendoza's Municipal Zoo is also inside the Park. There, native species can be appreciated. Mendoza Zoo was established in 1939 on the eastern slope of Cerro de la Gloria (monument to General San Martín), towards the western end of Parque General San Martín. It extends on 48 hectares, where local spices live in protection. The narrow pedestrian streets give a lovely feeling of contact with nature.

The ideal choice would be to stay in a luxury hotel downtown, close to main attractions that Mendoza has to offer.
