There are laws in the United States and other countries banning the use of Asbestos but not that long ago it was a commonly used mineral. Asbestos has been in use for over 2,000 and was first utilized by ancient Greeks who named the mineral Asbestos, meaning "inextinguishable". Even two thousand years ago, ancient Greeks were aware of the health challenges caused by Asbestos and noted a sickness of the lungs in slaves that wove the mineral into cloth. In 1924 the first diagnosis of Asbestosis was made prompting Asbestos studies in Europe. Following the studies Asbestos laws were passed in England in 1931 and ten years later in the United States. Asbestos companies continued to place workers in conditions as dangerous and profitable as the law would allow well into the great depression of the 1930's when medical journals of record started publishing articles linking asbestos to cancer. This delay in Asbestos regulation has resulted in numerous unnecessary Asbestos related illnesses and deaths.
