Adopted a boxer puppy? Learn how to housebreak your boxer puppy quickly to avoid accidents. Boxer puppies will pee every 3-5 hours at 8 weeks of age. They cannot control their bladder and will not get the ability to control it until the age of 12 weeks. It's important that you take your time to train your boxer puppy to pee outside so it doesn't become a habit for your dog.

Housebreaking your puppy is ideally best when your puppy is around 8 weeks old. There are 3 steps that you can take to quickly and effectively housebreak your puppy.

Step one is to try to catch your puppy in the act. Since your puppy will be taking bathroom breaks often it shouldn't be too difficult to catch your puppy in the act. I would recommend placing newspapers on the ground where your puppy's "place" in the house is because there will be a mess. If your puppy does end up peeing somewhere aside from the newspapers then make sure to get the stain out or your puppy will pee there again, assuming he has found his long life bathroom! Once you catch your puppy in the act give him a stern "No" so he knows that whatever he's doing, which is peeing, isn't making the owner very happy. Negative reinforcement in this case is required, but it goes along with positive reinforcement and I'll talk about that later. The important thing is to let our puppy know that we do not appreciate what he's doing because really, he doesn't know better and we just can't blame him for it.

Step two is to take your puppy out every time he attempts to go in the house. After you give him a negative emotion you have to take him right away and correct his behavior by making him pee outside where he's supposed to. Now after every time he successfully does the job where he's supposed to then you need to praise him enthusiastically and provide a yummy treat.

The last step is to keep this process up until your puppy finally learns that he can't go inside but has to go outside to use the bathroom. Keep it consistent and after a while your puppy will stop having "accidents" inside the house and will wait to go outside every time he needs to go. This will become even easier after it's been turned into a routine so that your boxer pup will already know exactly around what time each day he will go do his work.
