Many people experience eye problems, and some may be minor in nature. However, you may notice changes in your vision, and it may be time for an examination. For example, blurred vision one of the most common astigmatism symptoms. Here is more information on this disorder.
Blurred Vision
Your blurred vision may not be much of a problem. However, it can get worse. You also may have some kind of vision distortion. This problem is very important to recognize in very young children. After all they may not realize that there is something wrong with their vision. They may only know what everything looks like to them, and see it as correct. Your child's vision should be checked periodically.
Squinting
You may find that you are squinting more than usual. This may be for close up viewing, and also for looking at things at a distance. You may have a problem reading any kind of print in smaller fonts, too.
Headaches
Squinting and straining can sometimes lead to straining of the eye muscles. You may not notice strain, until you read for long periods of time. This can also lead to headaches that can be very painful.
Causes
Usually, this condition is caused by the shape of the cornea. The cornea is the clear, outer surface of the eye that acts as a lens. Sometimes the cornea shape can be distorted, and this can affect vision. It is similar to the lens on a camera or a telescope, and if the shape is changed, light enters the eye differently, and can make things seem out of focus and blurry.
Understanding Astigmatism Symptoms
Just because you are squinting and having blurred vision, does not mean it is astigmatism. It could be the result of a different eye or health condition. This is why it is very important to see a medical professional for an examination and evaluation.
Correction
In most cases, corrective eyeglasses will improve your vision. The glasses will correct the way that light enters the eyes. In some cases, refractive surgery can be used to correct the eyes. Your doctor can provide you with advice on what to do.
Summary
Astigmatism symptoms include blurred vision and squinting. However, this also can lead to eye strain and headaches. Blurred vision may be as sign of health problems, and seeing a doctor is very important. An eye doctor can prescribe corrective lenses, or in some cases, surgical procedures, to fix the problem.
