Life can change completely if an individual is suffering from degenerate disc disease. Commonly termed as a disease of the spine, it is caused by inter vertebral disc degeneration. The outcome can be very painful and it is chiefly responsible for the common back pain people frequently complain about. The patients are normally those who are aging but nowadays, no disease is influenced by age. Such degeneration gives rise to severe back pain which sometimes becomes intolerable. To get relief, people take help of painkiller injections, but, it hardly causes any problem to some people.
The starting point of the chronic pain is from back and then it gradually spreads to hips and other joints. The pain can be felt in the thighs even while taking brisk walks. It generally delivers weakness to the knees. This is why the infected patients start feeling the pain while bending or twisting. Patients face difficulty in lifting heavy weights. De-generative disc disease can also be caused owing to an injury. The immediate effect is inflammation. In due course of time, pain is generated in the discs. Quite true that source of the pain is lower back, but people suffering from this disease can also complain of neck pain. This is because of the problems generated in the upper spine which causes the neck pain. The problem can be severe and lead to serious issues when such a pain becomes an obstacle to the normal blood circulation. This, in turn, becomes problematic for the brain leading to abnormal headache.
A disease of this type can occur due to a prevailing problem in the nerves. A material scientifically named nucleus pulposus causes the nerves to swell up. The swelling results in pain. The worsening result can be expected with passing days when the patient infected ceases to be normal. Surgical treatments for such a disease and at this stage till now have not been proved to be useful. In fact, no such effective treatment has not yet been discovered so far.
Considering the above facts it should be admitted that the disease needs a proper treatment before it becomes worse. The first step is not to ignore any such back pain even if at an early age. The disease should not be allowed to lead an individual to unfavorable conditions confining him to a wheel chair. There is no need to restrict activities or prevent sports if infected with such a disease. The phenomenon is so common among the aging people that it hardly can be termed as a disease.
